Eh he's earned the right to bomb some time.

Olynyk over Gianni's, rozier, James young.  He bombs every year.  If u suck in college and Celtics are pickin in 15-20 range, you're gonna get paid

Bashing is deserved. After making some genius moves he has squandered almost everything.

The last thing he needs to do now is trade Jaylen Brown + pick for Collin Sexton (profit from Cavs PG-logjam...) to get our point guard of the future and sign Nikola Vucevic to a 4-year max contract, so we fix the positional problems we left behind.

We're probably years away from becoming a threat again, so Ainge might as well retire. Better for his health.
He'll get a frontdoor exit anyway.

lol. as much as i like danny this was a bad draft. JB and JT are still young. just play all our bums and see what happens. TANK and then TANK again. see if we get lucky. we are spinning our wheels if we spend on a average player who will not make us a contender.  do not make things worse. save the money. but seriously if we draft like this would tanking do any good? he looked good drafting some but this year was bad from the looks of it. could we trust him with a #1 pick? if we got lucky after tanking? or even #3 again? i do not think we are ging anywhere fast. still no guarantee JB or JT becomes as good as kyrie or Al. i say tank and keep building. there are no magic FA we can snag who will make a difference.

How can you justify tanking? Not to mention the rule changes definitely ruined chances of being a bottom 5 team with good chance of winning the lottery.

my bad. explain that rule change to me. we are still in no mans land. we cannot assume the JAYS will be all stars like kyrie and Al. what is you plan moving forward? i'm all ears.

Lottery odds are a lot flatter and they draw for the top 4 picks not top three.

So extreme tanks are far less likely to get the top pick and can fall further due to getting jumped by mid-lottery teams. See what happened to Cleveland for example.

If you're going to go with J&J, you have to give them a chance to become competitive to truly find out if either can be a cornerstone.

Tanking isn't appropriate for the team we have now, unless we hit a rash of injuries.

There are about 14 other teams who passed on Giannis too, not just Ainge. I mean, teams took Cody Zeller, Ben McLemore and Alex Len over him, but we are going to focus on Danny alone, eh?

And who after Terry Rozier would you have rather Danny picked instead of him? Rondae-Hollis Jefferson? Bobby Portis? Sam Dekker? The only guy worth mentioning is Montrezl Harrell and Josh Richardson, and all 30 teams passed on them before they got picked in the 2nd round.

James Young, at the time, was 18, athletic, and had a good season with Kentucky before he entered the draft. It's easy to bash Danny Ainge on the Young pick in hindsight, but at the time, publications liked that pick, mainly because of the potential that Young offers. And also, who would you have rather have him pick at #17 in 2014? 22 teams passed on Rodney Hood. 24 teams passed on Clint Capela. And all teams passed on Nikola Jokic before he got picked 45th.

Yeah, Danny Ainge had some misses, but let's not act like he's the only one missing on top draft selections.

And oh, he was right about Jaylen Brown over Kris Dunn, and Jayson Tatum over Markelle Fultz, but we are just going to ignore that, right?

If the rumours about Ainge not going all-in for Anthony Davis, wanting to hold Tatum or the Memphis pick, are even remotely true, I'd very much prefer him to retire.

This after not taking chances on Paul George and Kawhi Leonard.

Too risk-averse.

Ainge seems to have fallen in a typical GM vice of overvaluing his own players and draft picks.

And he's been pretty awful as a drafter, especially since his son took over as chief-scout.

Yeah, on average his picks aren't bad, Olynik wasn't really a bad pick for the 14th and so on, but being good at drafting is finding the gems. Drafting an All-NBA talent + 10 busts >>>> drafting 11 okay starters. And Ainge has had a LOT of picks - it's been what, 16 years now? Even if you're not picking top-3, at some point you need to get a serious star if you churn out so many picks.

To be fair to Ainge, the "contend and rebuild simultaneously" strategy meant a lot of picks were burned because there was no open playing time for rookies and young players. But that's his fault too, he picked that (faulty) strategy.
