I should clarify that I am not really in favor of sending Smart and picks out for Conley. I think we were just trying to find a way to acquire him without including Horford or Hayward.

Smart, Rubio, and keeping our picks definitely seems like a better proposition.

Anyway you slice it, a big chunk of Celtics Nation is going to be unhappy this summer—the pro-Kyries, the anti-Kyries, the pro-trade-everything-for Davises, the pro-youth-movements, etc.

Then again, pretty much all of Celtics Nation was happy at this time last season, thinking we had a juggernaut of a team, and look how that turned out ...
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

I think the anti-Kyries and anti-ADs would quickly change their tune and happily root for a true contender next season if we acquired both of them (and let Rozier walk). I am not saying whether or not this would be short lived (AD possibly leaving, underachieving), but this would be everything Danny has been building for years. It would be an exciting time.

It's really amazing that all of Danny's efforts might be for not all because of an obscure rule like the Rose Rule.

Probably a bad indication of where Kyrie is going

I think this is important to remember, though, too:

I'm all about the rumors, but a word of caution here: Danny Ainge will (and should) kick the tires on every available player looking for value. Doesn't mean he'll make a deal.

This rumor may stem from a simple phone call Danny had just superficially inquiring about what they would want for Conley. As seen in the discussion above, Conley doesn't really make much sense for us to pursue as a Kyrie replacement, as his huge contract is cost-prohibitive and likely preventing us from making a trade that makes sense.
Yeah, that's definitely true. Ainge is almost too proactive sometimes, lol.

I agree that Conley as a replacement doesn't really make sense for us, and it doesn't seem like Danny to get desperate if things start to fall the wrong way for us

The more I dig into this rumor the more it looks like it is something that is being speculated about IF Kyrie leaves and not necessarily something that has been actively sought out right now. This would be in line with the report that the C's were doing their due diligence about all possible scenarios with and without Kyrie re-signing.

The Jazz, Pacers, and Celtics (only if Kyrie leaves in FA) could show trade interest in Mike Conley, per Woj.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

Now that makes more sense.

I actually really like him on the Pacers if I'm honest. Him and Dipo would be sweet with Sabonis and Turner.

Thank God there are only 9 days until the NBA Draft (with an NHL Game 7 and hopefully two Finals games sprinkled in).

I can’t handle these asinine rumors for much longer.

I think if Kyrie leaves we need to start recruiting players who fit the Jays’ timeline—not guys like Conley.

As others have mentioned, the salaries seem like a showstopper. But I think what really makes this impossible is that once you figure out how to absorb that $32M deal (either Irving, Horford both opt-out first and you deal Smart + filler, or you're trading ~6 guys)... how are we going to have the salaries to deal for Anthony Davis?

Hmmmm....

Would Memphis be interested in Russell?

basics would be
BOS gets Conley
NETS get Kyrie
Memphis gets Russell and Smart but no picks. Then draft Barret and not Morant.

I think they'd probably still draft Morant. He's a better prospect than RJ is, and pretty comfortably I think.

Smart would not be traded for Conley unless we got a pick or two out of it....not the other way around.
Sheesh..

If our interest is true, Kyrie has told Danny gone for good which is not surprising given the way he was treated. Too bad, I was trying to rack my brain when was the last time we had two bonafide superstars in their prime wearing green and drew a blank. Close in 80s but not quite two top ten players. Definitely not 07-08 as they were awesome but past their prime. We could have had Davis and Kyrie plus Hayward and Horford...what a shame...what a shame...

Nobody treated Kyrie poorly. He had it made here and did whatever he wanted. And Ainge is probably willing to bend backwards to assemble a roster Taylor made for him.
The media and fans jumped on him and blamed him for all problems this season while giving $30million Gordon Hayward a pass. I would leave as well.

Yeah, not to mention the two guys on rookie contracts who arguably regressed in Tatum and Rozier. Or Brad's mismanagement of the team. Or DA sitting on his hands (yeah, I know, he was waiting for AD to become available - it still hurt our team this year).
