What OP is saying is correct. I don't know why some people would think its cowardly. The C's are in a excellent spot the next few years. Probably about a 55 win team with maybe a few minor moves left. They will have the ability to sign another max guy next summer. Other teams have already started filling up their cap the next few years as well. The C's will be a very attractive team. There is no reason to gamble on anyone that only has a year left on their contract. Just wait it out until next summer and the pieces will still be there to acquire a star if need be to go along with another free agent. A home grown super team is still there as a possibility as well. Ainge won't rush for the sake of rushing.

Some people have accused Durant of being a coward for signing with the Warriors.  OP is more cowardly.  Make a trade if you get more value coming in than going out.  Decline a trade if it doesn't.  Don't be scared of getting better.

Ha. Calling someone cowardly over the Internet. Riot. Anyways, it's not cowardly. There are many who thinks that strategy makes s lot of sense.

If the Celts want to peak in 2-3 years, acquiring the center piece this summer would be a good way to make that happen.  Most really good teams need a year or two at least to fully gel.

Not when you trade guys who might be your core in 2-3 years for guys who wont be as good then.

You are aware that both the Thomas and Bradley bargain contracts expire after two more seasons and that Horford is 30?

Horford at 33 might not be that bad. Thomas and Bradley- we could resign one of them and trade the other. We would be in a position to make moves, and by then, these young guys we have may be our core then.

Or...we could just wait until the offseason next year and try to sign these guys in FA, keep our core intact, and be able to draft those Brooklyn picks as well. #dynastyinthemaking

Curry and Durant are 27 and Thompson and Green are 25.  For a point of clarity, James is the best player in the world and is 31 and in 3 years not a single member of the Warriors big 4 will be as old as James is right now.  If the goal is to out live Golden State it will take AT LEAST 5 to 6 years and it is silly to plan on peaking then (far too many things can happen).  And by then there might be another super team or maybe Minnesota or Philly's players live up to their potential or heaven forbid maybe it is the Lakers current trio supplemented with a free agent that is a dynasty in the making.  If you can make yourself a contender now, you do it.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I agree somewhat.  In 2 to 3 years Horford will be around 33 and Thomas pushing 30.  Maybe by then we'll have 1 or 2 other stars where they play more secondary roles.  Relying on high draft picks though to get those stars is a risky proposition. Even looking at the best of the younger players like Towns, Davis, and Cousins.  They play on terrible teams.  It takes time.  A delicate balance needs to be made mortgaging future assets for winning players now and developing players, and in the NBA the landscape can change in a hurry.

There's no garuntee those Brooklyn picks will help us. There have been many busts in the top 3. I'm trading them to get better now. Danny isn't stupid. He is going to make sure the player coming back is going to stay. Westbrook, Blake, Cousins is better than anyone in next years draft. Sign me up for that.
