When I saw this kid coming out of college I really wanted to root for him. I wanted to hope that the media did him wrong. After he was taken by the Kings I kept a watch on how he was doing. (About as well as an east coast Celtic fan can casually keep track of a west coast player that is, which is to say that I perked my ears up when there was news about him.) When he asked to be traded his rookie season I sort of grimaced, then for years I heard scattered reports about how he had matured.
When trade talk concerning the Celtics and Cousins started to heat up, I watched with increased interest, Cousins and his play against the Celtics in particular. Initally I was more for the trade than against it.
Then I saw Cousins play.
The man is a bully on both offense and defense. He takes every opportunity to push, pull and drag his man out of the key so he can get an offensive rebound. On the rare occasion that he actually gets all the way up the floor on defense, he is a sieve, content to let players drive and dunk on him at will.
I have never seen a player literally jog at half speed up the defensive end on EVERY play, no matter the situation. It is so obvious he doesn't want to play defense he should be embarrased.
When it comes to the only side of the floor he likes, offense, he will take that ball and dribble himself, ensuring he gets the offensive touch.
Yes, he can be a dirty player, but I think he's the laziest player I've ever seen on the court. I don't know why it's tolerated, but I would never want him for a Celtic. He is an example of a player you don't want to have.
Don't get me wrong, he's fun to watch. Watching Cousins is like watching a comedy with some drama thrown in. His temper tantrums and techs are a riot, and just about every time he's in the game the Celtics gained ground. But should he have the honor of wearing Celtic green? Hell no!
