So if the Bogans contract is so valuable why to Cleveland why are we giving it up for spare parts?
Bogans' contract allows for an immediate upgrade potential in a trade as you can pair with other resources. That gives it great value for a competing team. C's just aren't buyers this year and were looking for ways to lower cap (to sign Turner) but still have a chip (TE).
I was disappointed in the strategy because likely we are tanking with such an approach. Now after Rondo injury no way C's make playoffs or trying for upgrades. It's another tank season.
Yeah the celtics wanted to get Bogans off the team before camp to stay away from the tax, and to make room for Evan Turner. I think 2 late seconds, an exception and a look at a couple more players is a good return for a guy they might have just cut a few days later.
Meanwhile the Cavs are going to have to start paying Bogans his pricey rate with the hope that he helps grease the wheels of another trade. We will see if Cleveland actually lands anything for him.
Another nice under the radar move for Ainge this summer.
