We traded Sacramento's 2015 and 2017 2nd rounders, both top-55 protected until 2017 then extinguished. Which basically means we traded no picks because the Kings aren't likely to be a top-5 team any time soon. In return we received a Cleveland's 2016 and 2017 2nd round picks, likely very low selections in exchange for taking on a very small amount of salary. It's just a half-step from buying 2nd round picks.

Good move Danny!

Here's a worthless but amusing (to me) thought that just passed through my mind.....as it stands,we now possess 1/10th of the picks in the 2016 draft.

'16 draft

Our 1st
Nets 1st
Cavs 1st
Philly 2nd
Cavs 2nd
Heat 2nd

and our own 2nd is either going to Memphis or Toronto.

Somewhere out there, Belichick is nodding his head in approval.
geez, next year's draft pick thread is going to be massive for cbers. we have to guess at SIX players now? ;D

Yeah but everyone's bound to be right a couple of times! It's like a game of Battleship once you start zeroing in....or maybe not really like that.

Oh and just to clarify this is the 2016 draft I'm speaking of. Next year's draft we have a measly 4 picks, unless Washington is a top 11 team record wise, and we get their 2nd.

And by measly I don't mean small. The picks will have measles.

right. my mistake. only four picks next year. having so many picks is going to spoil us all.

Nothing else Celtics related to talk about, at least there isn't multiple threads on it. 16 pages isn't that much,  some of the posts were long. It's not really about him anyway,  we don't really care about what went out,  it's about what came in.

With that said,  you could be being sarcastic, ignore my post if that's the case. ;)
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Also, if I am not mistaken you can only receive a TPE from a team that ISN'T over the cap, correct?

No.  You can't receive a trade exception if you are under the cap.
This isn't true.

TEs do have a cap hold, but you absolutely can receive one while having salary cap space. Though the hold will subsquently reduce your cap space unless your renounce it.

According to Larry Coon:

Quote
Teams that are under the cap when initiating a trade cannot receive a trade exception, even if they end up over the cap as a result of the trade.

So if the Bogans contract is so valuable why to Cleveland why are we giving it up for spare parts?

The trade exception we get back is pretty valuable too, afaik?

And it's just a win-win situation, right? Cleveland can use expirings in a trade, while Boston can probably use a trade exception better.

It is way more valuable to them than it was to us. We would have just eventually cut him anyway.

Because those second round picks are more valuable to the Celtics.

Because the Cavs will be capped out going forward, Cleveland gets more value from having increased financial flexibility.  Because the Celtics have a decent amount of contracts expiring next summer and the opportunity to create cap space, the Celtics have other options for creating the payroll flexibility needed to add another star next to Rondo.

Cleveland can now use the Bogans and Heywood contracts to get Marc Gasol to play the 5. The Celtics get a few 2nds and a decent prospect out of the deal. No one will beat the GOAT's team anytime soon so just sit back and watch the tank.

I don't see Memphis trading away Gasol anytime soon. They have a good chunk of cap room going into next season, and considering how highly they esteem him, why wouldn't they retain him at the max?

Actually yes.  Many people liked and respected Bogans' non-guarenteed contract, and couldn't wait to see what Danny was going to do with it.

If we had actually gotten a real player for him, say another Zeller-type, we'd probably have over twice as many pages.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

So you're saying we couldve had Gasol with a package that included Bogans and other expirings? Since we obviously have more assets to trade than Cleveland. NBA2K logic strikes again.

James is the best player of all time? 2-3 all time in the finals, including a sweep and losing in 5, and he's the best? If Allen doesn't hit that shot he'd be 1-4.

If you had Marc Gasol, would you trade him for that?
