We're not getting Love

I think Love will be traded, just not to us. Cleveland seems to want to win now so I would be surprised if they don't use the number one pick and trump our offer. I am a big Love fan but I don't want to overpay by giving more than 3 first rounders.

  They won't make that trade unless Love agrees to stay there for the long term, and they might not offer the first pick anyways. People are listing teams that can make better offers than us, but that may as well start with Miami and OKC, who could offer LeBron or Durant. But just because a team *can* offer more than us doesn't mean that they *will* offer more than us.

They might make the trade if Love agrees to opt in on the last year of his deal, though.

That franchise is a mess. They still don't have a coach over there. They have to detangle the lockerroom issues. How many GMs have they had over there too. That's a franchise with no real history of winning anything and making bad choices. It's possible Love could be convinced to go there if they lay out a plan that he likes, but if I'm Love, Cleveland is a perennial underachiever and I'm not sure I'd want to sign there unless I was certain Lebron was coming back.

It really has little to do with what Love wants, though -- my guess is that Cleveland would trade for him even without any assurances of an extension. What's Love going to do, pull a Vince Carter and play like crap? That doesn't work nearly as effectively in today's day and age, not when he has to deal with Twitter and the court of public opinion.
