I agree with the OP.

I am tired of being disappointed every year in the playoffs since 2008.

I am also tired of regular season games being taken off and the switch being flipped on and off.

I am ready for a new direction and ready for a new team.

For those who think a team of Pierce, KG, Rondo, Sully, Bradley and Jeff Green are going to contend next year, you will be sorely disappointed!
Haha I hope you're ready to not contend for a good 5 to 7 years then. Take a good look at the cavaliers. That's what we'll be when we "rebuild".

I don't know about that. I agree you have to fall in the cellar before you soar in the NBA again. But if the Celtics play their cards right and stop running an old KG/Pierce into the ground, I think they can return to the promise land sooner than you think.

And re the Cavs, I don't know about you but I sure wish we had a player as talented as Kyrie Irving and we don't.
So then we'll be even worse off. And how many "rebuilding" teams have turned into contenders in under 5 years? We're much more likely to end up like the Kings than OKC.

Stop living a pipe dream. This was destined to end someday. Why torture ourselves prolonging the inevitable? KG and Pierce were NOT the players they used to be this year. KG was obviously good, but he just can't keep doing it anymore. Just wait for the official release on his injuries within the next few weeks. Guy was banged up from age-related injuries. Pierce's lift is gone. He was injured too, from apparently nothing.

The faster we begin the rebuild, the sooner we get back to contention, it's as simple as that.

What's the best-case scenario in your opinion? Both stay, minor adjustments are made to the team, and we lose to NYK again next year? Then inevitably rebuild after that?

Sounds terrible. I'd rather free up the books, be in the position to sign a max deal (or two a year from now), and maybe even get a lottery shot one year while the guys figure it out. It's only uphill from there

I know it was going to end. But some of you think, hey, we'll be contending back in 2-3 years. That's not going to happen.

NYK won't be anywhere near as good next year. JR Smith is leaving, and we saw how badly they played without him.

What makes you think theres a max player wanting to come to boston?

Third, our books won't be freed up until 2014, and go and see what "max player" is available in 2014. http://www.hoopsworld.com/2014-nba-free-agents . Here's a hint, there is none. Or at least none you'd sign to a max contract if you want to keep your job as a GM.

We'll have to rebuild, but it'll be nowhere near as easy as you think.

I dont think anyone said it was gonna be easy. I dont think any rebuild is. Rebuilding takes time but it has to happen at some point. Prolonging it pushes the process even further into the future while the team wallows in medicocrity for another year. So, they might as well start now when there seems to be a great draft class in 2014.

With Pierce/KG out of the picture they'll have Rondo/Green/Sullinger/Bradley as a core. Everyone else imo, is tradeable for picks/expiring contracts/young assets.

I agree, we have to rebuild. Here's the problem with your idea.

With that core, by the time we're truly contenders (or even making noise in the playoffs again) Rondo and Green will be exiting their primes. Then it's rebuilding all over again.

Well, i dont consider either Rondo or Green as legitimate core building blocks for the future. I think both should pretty tradeable considering they are entering their prime and could get you some value back (Rondo more than Green).
