This kid was very enjoyable to watch. Watch him for 5 minutes and you realize his basketball IQ and skills. He is a must keep!!!

He held his own against favors today and he was drafted 50 picks later.

Harangody has been the only celtics player that has been consistant in his play.

Best part about Harangody is that he gets things done. Its not pretty and there is little style usually but he gets things done.

He has potential to be an excellent sf/pf bench player

Luke was certainly the most consistent player during the summer league.

POSITIVES...

High basketball IQ
Nose for the ball
Nice jumper and range
Doesn't force much
Hustles and unselfish

NEGATIVES...

Not really athletic
Undersized 4
Really no post game, mostly turnaround jumpers
Although an effective jump shot, he needs a good amount of space to be able to get it off
Doesn't finish well around the basket

All in all, a poor man's (as in cheaper) Ryan Gomes.  I'm sure he will make the team but his lack of size, length and athleticism concern me, particularly against most 4's in the league.

I like him...BUT...we really need size and length down low.

  • There can only be one.
Hypothetically, if we signed another big, couldn't we just play Luke at the 3?

Gody will fill the role that we don't currently have which is a power 3.

Good to hear more praise about this guy. What were his stats today?

Ainge did a good job of getting someone from the second round who has a good chance to make it in the NBA, even if it is as a role player off the bench.

This is basically what I've been thinking too.  He'd struggle against the quicker 3s, but I suspect he'd be okay against most teams backups.

Very good analysis, but remember Harongody will be coming off the bench, so he doesn't need to be perfect.  His ability to score the basketball will be a nice infusion off the bench.

Well, I have yet to see him play, unfortunately, but from what I am seeing in this thread Luke is a Keeper. I knew this already, though - he has my first name ;D

  • Another undersized Celtic...
I've been watching some summer league games, and he does look decent. Our maybe-new-asst coach Lawrence Frank was saying Luke reminds him of Tommy Heinsohn...that's quite a comparison, and man wouldn't it be funny to watch Tommy talk about a guy who is compared to himself?

I wasn't going to compare him to Heinsohn, but there's definately something old-school about him even beyond the haircut.

Gody has a post game, he just didn't use it in summer league, which is fine because he probably won't have use for it in the league.
