Doc isn't Rick Carlisle or someone like that to call every play from the sideline. He isn't Mike Dunleavy with his 9392 set plays. The Celtics offence isn't a pattern offence like the Iba motion offence and that kind of high-school offence. There are some initial sets and then the players execute from that. The Clippers did a good job defending Ray Allen, they made it their priority (which was clever, as they were able to almost nullify the Celtics perimeter off-the-ball action), so it was up to the other players to take advantage of their good shooting opportunities. Using Ray Allen more on-the-ball is complicated as long as Pierce is out because the other team perimeter defenders are able to cheat off their men and over-help at little cost.

Has there ever been a thread entitled, "This Win is credited to Doc"?

As fans, we have every right to complain and to pick out the negatives -- I know it's part of the fun of sports.

But, sometimes it's nice just to be gratified by a simple summation -- 23-6.

I gave MBz a Tommy Point for being the only respondent in this thread to accurately assess what went down on the play that resulted in Butler's three pointer.

Rondo got picked off at the top. Garnett helped, but ran right by Davis, allowing him to easily get to the rim.  Ray had to cover, and (despite alot of miscues on his part in this game) actually did a nice job rushing back out at Butler.  Alas, a little too late.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Yeps, Rondo and Garnett allowed Davis to split the screenball defence (lack of communication) and Wallace overcommitted on Kaman faked screen and was a couple of steps behind his help position. House and Allen were the only guys who executed in that play.

  • You say when......
I'd say one reason you can pin this on doc is he played scal aqain. 10 minutes and look at his stats, the usual, zero's...DNP for Sheldon, like we don't want rebounds, and solid inside play......SCal......in the corner waiting for the ball, sneakers that are allergic to paint, he must have dirt on doc.....How did kayman get 27 points..?

I dont blame doc for this and I didn't see the game. This team should be able to beat the clips with doc sitting in the mens room.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

In our championship run season, we didn't have our 6th loss until Jan. 14th!! (We had only 3 losses until Jan. 9th)

Re: Why does Doc not learn from this same mistake over and over?

We have been beaten by buzzer beaters probably about 3 or 4 times in the last few season and this is something that Doc has to learn from. You put a big man on the inbound passer to make it a much more difficult pass to get a shot off! Doc always has a guard guarding the inbound pass and it has burned us more than once, it just doesnt make much sense to me ....

fast forward to 2:15

(I mean in these videos the inbound pass isn't even close to being bothered with small guards just backing off and letting them pass the ball in easily for the game winning shot. Come on Doc you are supposed to learn from your mistakes.)

The old Celtics used to have McHale guard the inbounds passer because he had the longest arms.

History would support the idea that 23-6 is a great record. Especially on a team that is consciously preserving it's star players.  Remember that the 2007-8 team was jacked from start to finish -- this year's version is restrained in comparison.

23-6 plays out to 65 wins.  Only 2 C's champions in history won more than 65 games (1985-6 won 67 and 2007-8 won 66).  MANY C's championship teams won fewer than 60 games.
