I would trade Ray for Jefferson, Gadzuric, and the #10 in a heartbeat. Jefferson put up better statistical numbers than Ray last year, and is a few years younger. He can't shoot as good, but i would take a good bench over a knockdown shooter. Gad is a solid back up center. If nothing else he can provide size and strength off the bench.

The best part of this deal is the draft pick. At 10, draftexpress.com has Johnny Flynn, Ty Lawson, Brandon Jennings, Jeff Teague, and Eric Maynor all available. This could solve our problem at backup point.

Rondo/#10/House
Jefferson/TA/Walker
PP/Scal
KG/BBD
Perk/Gad

That is a solid team. i dont know if the Bucks get enough. Ray is an expiring contract, but they are trading one of their best players and a lottery pick. Very interesting deal tho. I like it alot for the Celts

The other thing to like about the deal from the owner's perspective is that it is a cheap way to build out the bench (Cs add a big man without taking on additional salary).
Celtics fan for life.

I don't want Jefferson for free.

Care to elaborate?  Is it just because of his contract, or do you think he is actually a negative player?

I just hate him. No need to elaborate further than that and not going to discuss the prons and cons basketball wise of adding him... I just hate him.

Fair enough.  Personally, I was never a fan of him when he was on the Nets, mainly because I think he got way too much unwarranted hype while playing with Kidd.  I always felt like he was a decent player who could defend, and score a little, but was nowhere close to the elite wing the media often made him out to be.  I remember times when he was even considered as good or better than Pierce.

However, if the C's could get him, and another asset, for an expiring contract, I would jump at it in a second.  While he isn't a superstar, we would not lose a ton going from him Ray to him (and in fact, it might be a step up, if he returned to his old defensive form, being back on a winner), and if we could get another asset, like their pick (a deal of Jefferson, Bell, and their first round pick for Allen makes a little sense for the C's at least), it would probably be worth taking on the extra salary next year.

Of course, I don't think Milwaukee would leap at a deal like that.  I think they would prefer to get more value back, if they are not saving money this year.  However, you never know what could happen, if there is nothing else out there, and they are desperate for the relief next year.

Hilarious story.  So there's that trend in the NBA that commentators and analysts have started referring to certain combinations of players on a team by generic nicknames like "Big 3" (KG, PP, Ray; TP, Manu, Duncan).  One time, I think it was Ernie who referred to "New Jersey's Big 3" (obviously Kidd, VC, Jefferson) and the Chuckster was not having any of that.  He goes "whoa whoa whoa whoa.  new jersey does not have a big 3.  dont call them a big 3.  they have jason kidd and some 2 other guys".

29 year old just coming off a major injury and questionable if he'll be back to his old self anytime soon if at all?

I suppose it is a risk, but wasn't Ray a 30 year old just coming off a major injury when we traded for him?

Maybe.  Maybe Ray was a risk.  But our team sucked back then so it made sense to take a risk like that.  Our team doesn't suck right now.

Also we know that Ray Allen pushed through his major injury and has played back to or close to his prior playing form. At this point it's just safer to go still with Ray. I wouldn't mind Jefferson but his shooting is terrible compared to Ray, so it might hurt us in the end.

What worries me about Jefferson is that his play has steadily gotten worse as he's become one of the stars of the team. Now moving to the C's would allow him back into a supporting role much of the time, but could he adjust his game back to that?

Also could he mesh as well with KG/Pierce? Ray is nearly a perfect compliment because he has a well rounded overall game and can shoot well from spot ups or off any sort of screen. Jefferson game is not as diverse.
