First he needs to clear waivers.  Likely no one claims him at that money.  No one has cap space to make a a claim.  The waiver period is 48 hours I believe.  If he clears waivers, he can go where ever he wants, he will be a UFA.

Quote
Well, I want to play. Like I enjoy the game. I want to play, but at the same time, there are like no teams who will really allow me to play. That’s how I’ve been feeling from the last situation with the Lakers. You know, I feel like I did enough to help them win a championship to really deserve a spot on the team and a chance to start and get big minutes. It didn’t happen, so after that, I was like, ‘Man, I don’t want to have to bust my ass for another whole summer, training three-a-days, going crazy dieting to do all of this sh*t and then get back to a team and sit on the bench,'” Howard said. “I can really help somebody win and still play. Like, I ain’t lost a beat. It’s just that I sit on the bench, so people don’t see that. Team’s don’t see that, you know and it’s been like, ‘[dang], do I want to just call it quits and do some other stuff? Or go back at it and show people I still got it…’ But Hell, I want to go out on top, for real. Because I’ve still got it. I still can hoop.

The Howard quote reminds me of a Thad Young clip that was floating around the web about a month ago.

https://youtu.be/w65fskOSr70?t=223

Relevant part starts about 3:43, but Young goes on to say he's been in the league for so long because he holds himself accountable, does the work, comes play hard, even if his body doesn't feel right.  He wakes up and he aches, but he aches because he loves it, and because he loves it he puts his body through torture, 2,3, 4 workouts a day since 8th grade.  And the work doesn't stop, when he got to the league the work just started, and after every contract the work still happens.

It takes a lot of work to stay in the NBA.
Always wanted Thad Young in green

Same he'd be the perfect 4

Perfect for what?  I see him as a useful, versatile bench player.  The classic PF/wing swing player.  Not even a natural PF.  He has not been a regular starter since 2018/19 in Indy.  Career 33% 3pt.

He is definitely a solid useful depth player.  I would love to have him on our bench.  Love having that kind of versatility and consistency in a bench player.  Sounds like a good fit in terms of leadership also.  But I don't see him as a "perfect 4".  He was always a "tweener" but in spite of that has had a very solid NBA career.

If you didnt know just the past season me and a few guys here talked about the possibility of getting Thad Young as a backup 4. The perfect we are talking about is how he fits perfectly in that role that we need.

OK, I get it now.

I have been clamoring for getting Dwight Howard. After reading that quote, no thank you.
He would probably get steady, if not big, minutes while Rob Williams is out.
But when Williams is healthy, Howards minutes go down and he becomes a problem.
