I might agree if the current rumor didnt include trading the #3,  the LAL pick and possibly Nets '18 for Butler. Even two of these three for Butler doesn't feel right to me.

Wasn't is 2017 BRK plus AB and Crowder/SMart at the deadline?

So AB = LAL pick and Smart or Crowder is BRK 18 pick? Horrible.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

I agree with a few points the OP made, but "we already have championship caliber guards." Not quite, we have tiny guards, one is always injured, and can't develop his own reliable offensive game, and one specifically who is a major defensive liability, literally a target to take advantage of, and easily controlled in a playoff atmosphere. Re-watch the first two games of the Bulls series. Before Rondo got hurt.

I'll take the "bird in hand" every time. That bird is Fultz. Trading the number one pick for more future picks is crazy. We already have young picks stashed all over the world.

The Celtics as a team are NOT a "tick" away from being in the finals, we're far from being a team to contend with the Spurs, Cavs or Warriors. We need a step-up in positional size, and talent at a few positions.

right. go with the known before the unknown. we KNOW we can grab fultz to go with JB. add hayward. keep and draft brooklyn pick next year as well. we waited long enough to make these picks after DA blew it up after 2013. let's use them. we may never get a #1 pick again. use it. we know who will be available next year also now. we have no clue who will be around past next year. it's nuts.

Seeing the flare up over a trade of our #1 pick has shown how extremely short sighted we are as fans. I'm going to say some things that will make a lot of people mad but it's simply the truth.
  • We don't need Fultz!!! On this team he's a luxury, we have championship caliber guards already, we need to strengthen our front court or we'll be just like the Wizards or Blazers. Fultz at Jordan level won't get us over the hump simply because our alternatives at that position already bring so much to the table. This point is doubly hammered home if we get Hayward in FA
  • If we get 2018 Lakers unprotected we will have the 1st round picks of the two teams projected to be the worst next year where the top prospects are actually at positions of great need... Bamba, Ayton, or if we want a scorer we go Porter and move a 3rd year Brown to SG we would immediately improve our oncourt size... which we currently clock in as the shortest team in the NBA
  • Top 5 2018 draft is better than this draft. There's no way Fultz, Ball, Jackson, Tatum and Isaacs hold a candle to Doncic, Ayton, Bamba, Porter... and we can get two of those
  • Fultz is not a generational talent. He's definitely talented and has potential to be great, but I put his prospect at a Wiggins, Parker level but definitely below a Kobe, Lebron or even Kyrie.
  • IT and Fultz cannot play together on this team with no rim protection... we'd be run through by any team with a half decent lineup.
  • Tatum is the best prospect for this team's future. For some reason draft hype always props up highly athletic prospects.
Jackson's skill set offensively is far too immature for me to project he'll ever be anything more than a pesky defender... Tatum on the other hand is the truth... pure scorer at the SF position and defensive potential
  • Terry Rozier has proven himself as a competent PG and the 2nd best PG on this team. The reason he hasn't been traded is because he is exactly what we need on our 2nd unit and most of the dislike has been more about name recognition than his performance. If Fultz came in as a 2nd year player and balled out like Rozier we'd all be saying the future is bright, but because he came in as an unheralded pick, he's disposable
  • Our window for competing is wide open and isn't closing anytime soon. We are amongst the youngest teams in the NBA and we are coming off a season where we won the Eastern Conference. We don't need to rush making the next step

2018 Celtics look like a death squad
IT/Rozier
Jaylen/Smart
Hayward /Crowder/Tatum
??? /???
Horford/Zizic

And two from Ayton/Bamba/Porter/Doncic.

Danny make the trade!!!

I dont agree with this premise in regards to the guards. All three are FAs after the season. AB is always hurt. You dont have a guy that can really create outside of IT. Not to mention from a financial standpoint you cant keep all three in this market. Oh and they have no size.

While they are good players I would not say we are set at the guard spot. Far from it. Too many uncertainties. Fultz is close to 6'5 which solves alot of our size issues in the backcourt. We also address our ballhandling and shot creation issues as well.

If anything, I saw its time that we trade AB and maybe even Rozier. I have no issues whatsoever trading AB.

I find this comment similar to the Brown argument last year of we dont need him cus we have Turner and Crowder. That argument made very little sense considering we couldnt score consistently from the wing nor defend at a high enough level. I see the same issue with our guards but please continue with we dont really need Fultz.

Our starters are good but very limited. You need more dynamic players and that's what Fultz would provide but I guess paying AB and IT close to 50 mil combined or almost half the cap makes sense to keep those Championship level guards.

In what world do we have championship guards????? The champs have a better back court than us, along with being superior at almost all positions.
I said we had championship level guards not the best backcourt. But when you have an All-Star PG that was top 3 in scoring paired with a SG known as one of the best onball defenders in the league AND averages 18ppg... that's championship caliber right there.

Uh wrong

Offense always beats defense.

Avery didn't slow Kyrie or Wall down... they do not have a champ backcourt

Fults isn't a better prospect better then Kyrie?  Give me a break. Fultz is a far superior athlete,  is at least as capable a scorer,  and can't possibly be any worse defensively.  Hes a better prospect then Kyrie ever was.

Fultz is easily a better prospect than Kyrie was. Fultz might even be a better guard prospect than John Wall.

Offense always beats defense is one of those clichés that mean very little on a court. I could respond with defense wins championships.

I'm not berating Fultz' talent... he's easily the best player in this draft but he's simply not a generational talent... and it's clear our front office, including CBS, doesn't think so either. If he isn't a generational talent at PG then we simply don't need him. He is not the only scorer in this class.

As a prospect, I'm always wary of judging players from lesser conferences. Kyrie and John did it at the ACC or SEC. Fultz put up his stats on a bad team in the Pac12 taking practically twice as many shots. Again not berating his potential... just not generational

"He's easily the best player in the draft"

Then you draft him!

All these future picks may not give us another opportunity at "the best player in the draft".  Chances are we end up with multiple 3rd, 4th, 8th best players in the draft.
