So Danny trades up to 5 firsts, Sullinger and if necessary, Isaiah Thomas. He is able to work a multi-team deal that gets us a top 5 pick - Winslow, and also move down a few slots to grab Kaminsky.

If I were Love or Monroe, I'd want to play with that group.

If I'm understanding you, the deal would (or at least, could) be:

Sully + Thomas + five first rounders for Winslow + Kaminsky?

I think that offer would arguably be too much for DeMarcus Cousins, let alone Winslow and Kaminsky.

I was trying to make a point. We could make a bold move, which could leave us with a scenario that could then attract some interesting free agents. I think it would be too much too, but it shows what is feasible. Something through this draft could leave the franchise in better shape than signing a pretty good young player to a huge contract. Towns, Winslow or Russell could be tremendous players. And you haven't spent any money yet.

So I'd rather go with Winslow, Kaminski and tons of cap space. Cousins is great but will never be the top player on a championship team.

In all probability, Cousins is better than anybody in this draft.  If he never wins a championship, it's because 1) championships are tremendously hard to win, and 2) his team is horribly mismanaged.

Conceptually, I think I'd rather overpay Middleton than sacrifice two players and five draft picks for a couple of good prospects who have proven nothing.

Cousins probably is better. But he will want top dollar now and he will define your team. I wouldn't want to bet he will rise to the highest level.

Rookies aren't getting paid for years. They don't define your team. They are still considered assets.

And it is unfair to say that Winslow and Kaminski have proven nothing. They were easily the two best players in the NCAA tournament. Kaminski was the best player in the country over the whole year. They are as accomplished as they could possibly be so far. And they fit perfectly. They will make the team better immediately.

All rookies, by their nature, are unproven.  There's a huge chasm between the NCAA and the NBA.  Look at Doug McDermott, who is currently riding the pine for the Bulls despite being an elite college player.

I don't even think I do that to get the #1 for Towns or Okafor, though I would at least consider that.  Certainly don't do it for a wing in this draft.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - Noah, G. Wallace,
Deep Bench -

I have got to agree with Roy here. There's no argument that rookies can ever be counted on in the manner of an established, rising player in their 3rd or 4th year...I mean I'd be stoked if our top 3 pick ever gained a similar NBA career progression to Middleton's in their 3 years in the NBA.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
