The issue I have with him is not that he's a bad player, but that I think he has the tools to be so much more.

How many seven footers (even if he plays a bit shorter than seven feet due to his short arms) can run the floor, pass, and shoot like this guy can? He's not Dirk, but if he just had the mentality to be a bit more aggressive in using his tools he could be a really decent player.

Even if he never improves though, he's a fine 3rd or 4th big, which is about what you'd expect from his draft position. His passivity is frustrating but I don't think he deserves some of the vitriol he gets.

You could say the same thing about byron mullens ,  lance stephenson, rondo (incapability to shoot).

The mental part is just as difficult to overcome/control

That is why Bird was so good even though he only had a so so body.  Paul Pierce the same.

Jordan had both "mental" and "physical" and that is why he was pretty much unstoppable

KO will surely get better as he keeps building a better body.  As for the mental part he may never be that "guy' ppl here want him to be.  Just too unselfish naturally

Do you have the patience to see those tools develop into much more though ?

That's what I question.  Most fans don't have patience for developing youth. They judge people like Olynyk, Pressey, etc. as finished products.  When in reality, they're just starting the development process.

Apparently watching people play a sport and having an opinion on what you see is considered "not being patient." How old to players have to be before we're allowed to have opinions on them?
How do you feel about websites where people with similar interests share their opinions?

Opinions are fine, just don't throw out KO with the bathwater.  ;D

There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

At least 3 seasons. And as long as the player is progressing

KO since last season has been progressing.

They can be any age for you to have an opinion.

It's a very young roster. Patience is definitely a must. Outside of Wallace, most of these players can and will get better.  That includes guys like Bradley & Turner, despite their time in the league.

I agree with this statement.

just want to reiterate my opening post:

Kelly's fear of getting his shot blocked is the biggest detriment to him and this team. plenty of times the shot is there for him to take, the team works to get the looks he gets; only to see him turn the shot down. this disrupts or flat-out kills the flow of the offense.

many blamed KG for passing too much over the course of his career, but KG was gifted with athletic ability to make up for any flaw he might have. Kelly is severely lacking in the athletic department and doesn't have the benefit of falling back on such gifts. Kelly - take the shots you're given!

because I think the message seemed to get lost on a lot of people....especially the tone of it.

my intent was not to bash Kelly and I don't believe I did. I think everything I said there is spot on. case in point, last night he shot the ball when he should have most of the time and we won.

when he doesn't, it becomes a detriment to his game and the team, it flat-out kills the flow of offense. I really believe he's being more aggressive on both ends these days. it's just on the offensive end he has a problem with worrying about getting his shot blocked. or he forgets he's a 7 footer.
