First off, it's been a long time since I've posted here (years, in fact). Since the 2010 Finals is my guess, since that's when I felt like the Celtics were flat-out robbed of #18 by the officials, and I decided to take a break from being a so-called "die-hard", to simply a "Celtics die-hard who needed to step away". I've still paid close attention, but I just haven't been as emotionally involved (I'll stick with them through thick and thin - I had to wait 22 years for Banner 17). So, I'm glad to be back, and am glad to see some familiar user names in here.
Having said all of that (if you're still with me, thank you), I dislike Lebron as much as anyone. Not that he's done anything personally to me., but I've gotten disgusted at how much it's shoved down our throats that we "have to like him" (I'm looking directly at you, ESPN). Kind of like Yankees/Red Sox, Derek Jeter, or what Tiger Woods is up to. It's snowballed from just an annoyance a few years ago, to something far more than that for me. Couple that with his antics on the court (whining, flopping, etc), and the special treatment he gets from the refs, and it just got too sickening for me to watch or pay attention to.
That being said, lets not misconstrue how good (maybe great?) he is. I understand that people love to pile on to players/celebrities that they dislike (some say "hate" - too strong of a word for me). I've done my fair share of that, too. But to read people say that 31 points and 10 rebounds equates to "quitting" is somewhat laughable. My guess is that if he dropped 63 and lost, it'd have been his fault for being too much of a ballhog. This is similar to how felt about Magic, Isaiah Thomas, and Kareem back in the 80s. Admitting that they were "great" was tough, because there was so much dislike. But they were "great". Now, maybe they weren't as unlikeable as Lebron is (Thomas, in my opinion, is tops on any "unlikeable list"). But that shouldn't overshadow his game, as much as I want to think that it should.
Anyway, I just wanted to chime in again. It's nice to see this place is still filled with real and true Celtics fans.
