With the Cs obviously looking to the future I am confident the Cs are not in this trade out situation.
This does create a nice opportunity for Ainge to work with. With so much money coming off the books this off season ownership is going to be in a position to save money on salaries cap penalties for 2012-2013 (even if everyone is resigned KG and Ray deal will not be as big as this years).
These savings should make them much more willing to pay for a late 1st round pick from a team like Miami, OKC, or Chicago. I do not expect the Cs to draft 3 1st round picks but I could see them using 21-22 to move up to maybe 15-18 and then purchase maybe the 29th from chicago.
The huge numbers and range of player the Cs are working out leads me to believe that they at least are looking at the possibility of drafting later in the first or earlier in the second.
If the C's were obviously looking to the future they would not have signed arguably the worst developmental coach in the NBA to a long-term extension. They're not trading down. Maybe up for immediate help but not down.
Garnett will be resigned for sure. Jeff Green and Wilcox will likely be resigned. IMHO, Allen is the least likely to be resigned. The roster will be reloaded...Not rebuilt. Look for one or both of the first rounders to be traded for help at the 4-5. Combine them, if healthy, with Bradley...And we're better than this year's team.
I agree Danny will be reloading, not rebuilding; he's a good chance of moving up in the draft and consolidating picks; and Ray's the most likely of the Big Three not to be back.
But I think there's a reasonable chance, maybe 20-25%, he does something with Pierce and his contract. If he can resign Green reasonably and has a crack at a Miller or Harkless type in the draft, he may think it is time to pull the painful trigger.
