Why shouldn't Ray feel slighted?

OK people are speculating a bit much when reading these stories. As a person who knows Ray's family, grew up like he did as a military kid (same AFB and neighborhood he preceded me at Hillcrest high school by 3  years)  its not the money.  Which is what everybody seems to be jumping to.  Its respect and value (no Ray is not taking a minimum contract why would he?) and when he says stability he's not saying financial.  He's talking about knowing he's not going to be traded or on a 1 year deal where he and his family will have to think about this again in 8 months. If Ray were given 2 or 3 years at say 4 million with a no trade clause he'd take it.  He's tired  of wondering if he'll stay or go.  Tierra is in college in New England believe me when I say if Boston is fair to him he'd make every effort to stay in Boston.  Ray hated everytime he was traded because he forms attachments to the fans and the city (always very community oriented wherever he goes).  Ray is a player that as long as he was treated fairly would've been with the same team his entire career.  I've been on this forum for years and I can unequivocally say that the Celtitcs and many of the fans Ive seen on this forum have been way less "loyal" to him than he's been to them. I've seen 245438 trade Ray for unproven player x a candy bar and a draft pick over the years and it might be for some small reason as he had an off game. Ray is a future hall of famer and one of the best top 5 SG of the past 15 years and arguably the best shooter of all time and this is the respect he gets from some fans?  If Danny and Doc approach this correctly Ray will stay.  Also Ray is smart enough to realize he won't start for most contenders going forward, I don't think that matters to him, he just wants to know his role up front, if next year he starts it with the mentality of the sixth man he'll be fine with it.   I also know that half the posters (not the regulars but the newbies and irregulars) on this forum are a clutch jumper away from loving him and wanting him to retire as a Celtic again.

Mayo seems like the kind of guy who wants to go a team that will both start him and give him a big contract.  The Celtics are not and should not be that sort of team.

Name me such a stupid team to do so. I bet even GSW or NJN won't do it.

The Nets are exactly the sort of team that I think would offer him a nice contract.  I'd even say that it would probably be in their best interests to offer him two years at something over the MLE and have Marshon Brooks come off the bench.

I don't see much of an upgrade over Brooks in Mayo, but I guess you're right. They may well be that stupid.

A lot of the discussions about what RA is worth to the C's next year are really hard to pinpoint right now.  Some of it depends on which free agents DA goes after and what kind of cash we have left.  If he is willing to be the 6th/7th man - sharpshooter off the bench, then I think there is a great chance he could be back next year because he would have great value in that role.

I think at this point I don't think Ray is a starter for a championship contending team.  I can't imagine a player of Ray's stature wanting to go to a lottery team just to start.  I think if Ray can get a 2 year deal for decent money, with the understanding upfront he is coming off the bench I think he would resign here.  The older you get, the less you want to move to a new place.

If we had the right personnel, and Ray's offensive game were more utilized, he'd be a pretty darn good player in this league...production wise.

But we don't have the right personnel and we don't have the motivation to change our offense to Ray-centric.

I don't see what is wrong about Ray wanting to do what's best for him and his family.

Organizations always try to do what's best for their own end.

Interestingly, if it's really not about the money, he's been in the league long enough that if he allowed himself to become a full FA, he could sign a 4 year 10 million dollar contract (so 2.5 per year) with a No Trade Clause. Then he knows where he's going to be and the team can't trade him, and that's cheap enough the team could afford to keep him around.
