I'm glad this didn't go through.

Bradley, Rondo, Mayo isn't a rotation I want the C's building upon.

Any kind of trade involving Mike Conley would automatically mean we were in discussions to move Rondo. You don't get Conley to play as a back-up. He isn't that cheap and also he's capable of playing the starting point guard position for many teams and that includes a Rondo-less Boston Celtics.
That means it would probably be a three, possibly four team deal that would move multiple players across the league. That would make it sound right.

And New Jersey with Pierce would move down a bit in the draft, so, please make your consideration taking this into account. It would probably be around 9th pick, I guess. That may be worth a shot, but I don't know. You don't want to trade your go-to-guy, one without a history of serious injuries and still capable of taking over a game when demanded, without getting really something good in return.
Since we don't even know about Jeff Green's health condition at this point, that move would basically leave us without a SF going forward.
Ask this question, then. Do you get an all-star caliber SF with that 9th pick?
Nets kinda screwed it up by bringing Wallace in, anyway. He's not going to be enough to convince Howard to come aboard.

Bradley, Rondo, Mayo isn't a rotation I want the C's building upon.
Bradley, Rondo, Mayo, and 4 first round picks.

Taking nbadraft.net the picks equate to: Jeremy Lamb, Tony Mitchell, Moe Harkless, and Doron Lamb.

At draftexpress.com the picks equate to: Harrison Barnes, Tony Wroten, Evan Fournier, and Arnett Moultrie

Seems like a pretty good base going forward and that is with the Celtics likely being better than they would have been and thus their own pick is worse.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Yeah I think you have to look at that as a package of assets. No way all those guys stay on the team. Even OKC traded Green. You get the best assets possible in a rebuild and then move them for the best pieces you feel can win you a title.

Personally I think Bradley, Mayo, and Rondo all have the potential to really compliment each other.

Also don't forget about the added cap space from moving Pierce, and a potentially healthy Jeff Green.

I don't necessarily love that three guard rotation, but you could do a lot worse. Rondo can create offense for everybody, Mayo can create his own shot and Bradley has the ability to be an All-Defensive Team mainstay. And they'll be 26, 24 and 21 when next season starts.

For me, more important is that Mayo is a better asset in coming years than Ray will be. Even if they didn't want to keep him this offseason, I think they have a better chance of turning him, a 24-year old restricted free agent who still has upside, into more assets in a sign and trade, than they do of acquiring assets for Ray. I think Danny recognizes that it's tough to bring marquee free agents to a cold city, even one with the most decorated franchise in NBA history, and it's extremely risky to try bottoming out to get a top pick - could end up being a top pick in a bad draft, or you find yourself stuck in mid-to-late lottery purgatory. This team was built through trades and mid to late first round picks. That requires drafting well and accumulating assets. Turning 36 year old Ray into Mayo and a first round pick is a good move for building assets. (Still not sold that the Pierce trade would've been worth it, not in the division for an uncertain pick.)
Go Celtics.

Why not?
1. I'm not an OJ Mayo fan, his game and shooting has regressed the last two years as he became a bench guard. Given that he's primarily an offensive player that's a huge red flag for me.

2. I'd rather have a SG with some size/toughness to handle bigger back courts be the third guard to pair with Rondo/Bradley. Mayo doesn't fit the bill.

Mayo can create his own shot
Too bad his shot is an awful pull up jumper.

I do think he's an asset compared to Ray Allen, but not much of one. He's a RFA next year and will be looking to get paid. I don't think I'd be comfortable with the number his agent will be asking for. RFA status makes it hard to trade him if he signs an offer sheet or accepts the QO.

shoulda traded him when we had a shot.  Hopefully he gets healthy and makes some kind of impact in the playoffs.

Uh, given that they called him and told him he was being traded they clearly were doing their best to move him for value.

Given the nature of the deadline I wouldn't be shocked if once that deal fell apart there just weren't other options left. Other teams had made their plans and moved on and the deadline passed.

That's an entire article with absolutely nothing corroborating the article's premise aside from the author's speculation. That is just absolute hot garbage. Shame on ol Gary Washburn.

I think that 3 guard rotation is fine if you get a great shooting SF and/or PF to compliment them.  Maybe you re-sign Green and go hard after Ryan Anderson.  Maybe KG is willing to stay on (for a lot more money than he would get elsewhere, but a one year type deal).

I think this would be a pretty solid start and personally if I was picking using nbadraft.net available players (and current draft positions) this would be my potential rotation next year (had those trades been made).

C - KG, Stiemer, Fab Melo
PF - Ryan Anderson, Johnson
SF - Green, Perry Jones, Royce White
SG - Mayo, Bradley, Moore
PG - Rondo, Tony Wroten
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
