Does having a top 10 NBA player really give a team an inherent advantage?

Teams with Dwyane Wade, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant didn't even make the conference semi-finals last year and the team that won it all didn't have a top 40 NBA player on it?

Manu isn't a top 40 player?

I do think that looking over the results for the past couple of years if you don't have a high pick its much much harder to get all that far.

Hopefully this evens things out some.

Couple of things hurt your team

1. Kobe winning a title just weeks beforehand. Never discount Kobe backlash on Celticsblog.

2. After your top 4 players....yikes, the rest of the team was dreadful.

Hey, I was in the same boat with Gerald Wallace, Stephen Jackson, George Hill and Luis Scola. Even had Przybilla for half a year and Anthony Morrow...didn't make the playoffs.



Oh, and after that, yeah, my team pretty much sucked.

Oh, you know I agree. If you'll recall I was threatening to vote through the entire Southwest division. Although to add to Nick's critique: RE: Joakim Noah, anticipating a break out season doesn't carry much weight in August/September.

That and the fact that Vlad "Space Cadet" Radmanovic doesn't belong in an eight man rotation. Otherwise very nice work. If you hadn't given up quite so much in dealing for Kobe I suspect you would've made a deep playoff run.

Ya any team starting Vlad wasnt going to get to the playoffs.  If Roy and Edgar taught us anything its that a team loaded with talent throughout the roster will come out on top. 

I dont think Vlad would have played any minutes on Edgars team an you had him starting.

I mean, I could preen about how right I was about Ibaka and Ilyasova, or how Rondo made the leap this past season into elite level point guard, but really this probably wasn't a playoff team. Not with the devastating injuries and questionable leadership.
