In hindsight, probably shouldn't have traded Stephon Curry away for Gilbert Arenas...

Still loved my starting 5 though:

Gilbert Arenas
Andre Igoudala
Shane Battier
Lamarcus Aldridge
Kurt Thomas

With Ricky Rubio, Von Wafer across seas and no one outside of Channing Frye on the bench.

Steve Blake, Johnny Flynn,Lester Hudson,Brandon Roy,Sam Young,Desmond Mason,Sonny Weems hedo Turgolu Jason Thompson, Craig Smith, Dante Cunnigham Brian Cook, Haseem Thabeet, and Sean Marks

That was my team from last year... Hedo was a bust I'll admit that. Roy played well when not injured, Weems was a steal, pg's were good, Center's = all disasters. I knew center postion was a disaster just didnt have the pieces to fix it.

Starting Five as i had planned:

PG: Tony Parker
SG: Rudy Fernandez
SF: Wilson Chandler
PF: Boris Diaw
C: Brook Lopez

Team outlook as this season progressed:

PG: Tony Parker
SG: Wilson Chandler
SF: Omri Casspi
PF: Andrea Bargnani
C: Brook Lopez

Bench: Mo Williams, Rudy Fernandez, Boris Diaw, Louis Amundson
Deep Bench: Travis Diener,Sun Yue, Nando De Colo, Daequann Cook, The DJS Mbenga and White.

I still contend that this team was way better than given credit for although Fernandez, Cook and Diaw were dissapointments Casspi and Amundson were very pleasant surprises. In fact Amundson's development as a tough defender and rebounder helped address a major weakness of my team. That being said, I still should have drafted Jamal Crawford and not Diaw in the 4th round. Bad KC, bad.

You didn't make a mistake, if you have Mo Williams and Tony Parker on your team you really don't need Crawford.

I think Diaw is a better player anyways, even with his struggles.

The thing is , if I drafted Crawford I probably never trade Rudy Gay for Mo, Fernandez, DJ White and Chandler. So then I would have a starting line up of : TP, Crawford, Rudy gay, Bargs, Lopez.

It takes a whole year to get the Mo WIlliams out of your systems, and even then you're still left with the stigma.

Here's my hindsight on the '09 Draft as someone who sat in the Commish's seat.

- Too much drama last year.  People need to stop taking this thing so darn seriously.  It's a fantasy draft with no $ on the line on a basketball blog.  Stop being so hyper-competitive.

- People need to check their egos at the door.  They definitely came out in last year's draft.

- People need to realize the Commish has a life outside of both the draft & Celticsblog in general.  Cut the guy some slack if they don't respond immediately or tell you to cool your jets.

- Stop being so defensive.  Some people take any little criticism of their team as a personal attack.  Look, no one's team is going to be perfect.  Be able to accept the criticism or don't participate.

- Be active.  If you agree to participate in this draft, its expected you make your draft times or designate a proxy to make your pick.  This draft is a relatively big undertaking.  Realize that or don't play.

- If you're not participating, don't come in to this thing with the goal of creating drama.

TP Dons.

And being one of the idiots from last year's draft let me apologize and say what a great job you did.

This post cannot be emphasized enough.

Dons lemme start by saying you did an incredible job last year; between the smear campaigns and the constant bickering it ended up being quite a lesson in mediation for you i assume.

Unfortunately i think that people ended up taking this game not only too seriously, but too personally.  I wouldn't necessarilly be opposed to a rule that limits criticism during the drafting stage...i know it sounds juvenile but the little comments people make end up snowballing and turning the drafting forum into page after page of retaliatory critics.

Dons let me know if you're interested in an assistant GM job, i know you can't stay away...

Does having a top 10 NBA player really give a team an inherent advantage?

Teams with Dwyane Wade, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant didn't even make the conference semi-finals last year and the team that won it all didn't have a top 40 NBA player on it? ;) :D

Manu isn't a top 40 player?

I do think that looking over the results for the past couple of years if you don't have a high pick its much much harder to get all that far.

Hopefully this evens things out some.
