You do that trade without a 2nd thought.
that's so you but thankfully it's not Brad
yes significantly upgrading talent at the expense of mostly worthless assets just sounds like a terrible idea.

It?s a talent upgrade if you ignore availability, which I think has been the main point of those who oppose this trade idea.   Not a good idea to not take games played over the last four years into account.
exactly --  and let's not forget his propensity to knock our players' availability or lack of it when people talk them up here.  funny how when that player is on another team it doesn't matter

Even with the lack of availability he is a top 50 player in the sport (at least that is where Ringer has him as of less than a week ago).  Having crappy players available doesn't get you wins.  You upgrade the talent and don't give it a 2nd thought.  If that trade was available to Boston it would have been made already.  Simons is going to be traded at some point.  Hauser and Walsh are fine 8th man type players.  And with how well Boston has played even if you traded this years pick, it doesn't look like it will be a lottery pick.  Boston has to upgrade its talent or it won't win again.  Ball is a major talent upgrade and that trade is giving up mostly crap.  You take the risk on the health because the upside is massive.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

He is not a winning player.   That is too much to give up for him.   He is always hurt, shooting is dubious at best.

no. if we're making a deal with our primary asset Simons, then we need to be getting a big, not another guard that doesn't make an effort on defense and isn't the shooter that Simons is.

Simons not even as asset man. Most teams want the Celtics to attach a first to take him on. Let that sink in.

Simons is not much of an asset, but no one is asking for a first just to take him.  You are just making things up.  He is not being traded because his salary is simply too large for most teams to work out a deal, and they want to see what is out there closer to the deadline.

Making things up really? I heard a report that only the nets and one other team.We were in negotiations for Simon's that did not want a first round pick for simons, every other team wanted a first round pick attached.

He's super talented and fun to watch but he's too erratic and injury prone.  He may benefit from a change of scenery but Boston isn't the right situation for him.  The plan is to go all in for a championship next year, and Ball is too unreliable to waste prime seasons of Brown and Tatum.  There is  like a 50% chance he won't be available when we need him to be there in the playoffs.  It's not worth the risk.

please, didn't we do something similar before?

does he have talent? sure, most decidedly. does that talent mean anything when he is not on the court? no, most decidedly.

in the past three years these are the number of games he has played in:

36 of 82
22 of 82
47 of 82

so, he has played in 43% of possible games for a three year stretch. does anyone think the celtics can do better given the proposed trade package offered by the celtics?

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
