Not a bad return for Miami under the circumstances. I wonder if Butler is happy about this. The reports he didn?t want to go to Golden State. Not sure why he wouldn?t want to go there.

Apparently Durant didn't want to go to GSW. I think this was Butler's only option and it was presented to him as such. If Beal wasn't willing to waive his NTC and accept a trade elsewhere it just wasn't feasible for PHO unless they sent Durant to Miami I guess, but even then I just think Durant is still better than Butler.

Shams reported that Butler agreed to a two year extension for $120 million. I think that means next season on his option year +2 more seasons for a total of three more seasons that is good for curry.

Actually, on closer read, he is declining the option. The extension is just for the next two seasons after this one.

Hold on. NBA.com is reporting it is a five team trade with Pistons, jazz and Raptors involved.  This version has Miami getting Wiggins PJ Tucker and a first round pick from Golden State protected one through 10.

Begin the countdown to when Butler gets disgruntled again and asks out of GS. ;D

LOL 2/120M? Jesus...

its actually projected 2/111M cause the max can only be 58.5 for the second year (agent talk, bonuses ?)

After further digging it looks like it wasn't for next year + an additional two years for the extension. As part of the extension, reports are that Jimmy is not picking up his option next year and instead going straight into this extension. So it'll only be two more years after this season. That makes it a little more palatable, but still a gross overpay for an increasingly injury-prone player who has had messy exits from every place he's placed.

Really goes to show you it?s a players league.

I mean Butler acted like a drama-queen, beefed with Pat Riley (the ?don? of the NBA), even seemed to deteriorate his relationship with his teammates, and not only does he get traded but he immediately gets a 2/121M contract extension.

Bonkers

And ultimately all those fines and suspensions don?t even matter. Basically got close to 60M AAV

That's a lot of money for a guy that doesn't play that much. Butler has gone from the most underrated player in the NBA 10+ years ago to one of the most overrated players. Still not as overrated as Luka....
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

This is generally true regarding Jimmy Butler.  He isn't what he used to be and he is injured a lot, but he isn't quite the state of Paul George either.  I understand GSW taking this risk.  If Butler and Curry are healthy for a playoff run, they have a chance.  Their window with Curry is rapidly closing.  The Butler contract is only 2 years.

I think they will get 2 playoff runs out of Butler, he will be healthy enough for that.  That is all they care about.  They are better with Butler than with Wiggins.  Of course there is risk with Butler, but it seems to me to be a reasonable chance to take.  Overpay Butler for 2 more playoff runs with Curry, manage the heck out of his minutes during the regular season, why not?

24 players in the NBA ran 300+ isos last season.

Jimmy Butler ranked #3 in the league for points per possession in iso with 1.13 points per possession.

Exactly why Golden State needed. They haven't had an iso scorer since Durant left. Great match with Steph's game.

Tim Kempf was talking about how lethal a two man game in the PnR between Steph and Jimmy could be. That they will be able to force mismatches. Or they will double Steph leaving Jimmy to attack on the short roll 4 vs 3.
