Stevens on the team's lack of fight: "That's what eats at me the most. We cracked more than we should have. We need to be better than that. I'll be the first to say that this is the most trying year I've had as a coach. I did a bad job. If the team doesn't fit, that's on you."

I know most people will focus on the lack of fight or Stevens blaming himself (which anyone would do after this season), but not me.  I think the most telling part of the quote is what’s been obvious all along.  The fit of these players is awful.  Too many dominant ball guys, few complimentary  guys, streaky shooters.

Nope, while BS is technically falling in the sword, he’s telling you this team was doomed from the start.

What's bizarre is we played so well in game 1. That was just 10 days ago. Seriously, how could a team regress so badly over the course of 10 days and only 4 games?

That's some serious mental gymnastics there, droop lol

He's literally been blaming himself all season long for his futility this year, which has been more than obvious by the product on the floor, but, sure, it's more likely that his words don't mean exactly what he's saying but are some metaphor for the ill fit of the team. Occam's razor, droop, Occam's razor.

Well to be fair, he was right, he did do a I would say VERY bad job this year. Also I think the fit of these guys wasn't great, but I'm not sure it mattered. Say you swapped out Hayward with a pure shooter (like Reddick), Rozier with a competent backup point who would distribute the ball, and Morris with  a lower volume 3 and D wing (like what we all want semi to be). That team would fit much better, but it still wouldn't come close to beating the bucks. Ultimately we need more Talent.  Ultimately we need to trade for a 1a like Davis, need Kyrie to play like a 1b (instead of whatever trash he was this round), and need one of whatever Jay is left or Hayward to play like a 3rd banana. In other words, we need better top end talent.

Well, part of what he said is that the pieces don’t fit, which one could see from the moon.  So there’s that.

Brad blames himself - yet he never changed out any of the players in his rotation and kept running Rozier out there - even in the playoffs once Smart returned and while Rozier continued to play like crap.  He didn't want to publicly challenge any of his players or blame them in any way - and he was rewarded with a non-competitive showing vs the Bucks.

The Brad brand lost a lot of its luster this season.

Yeah, and he literally said that it's on him for not fitting. Funny how you left that part out.  ;)

Seriously.

All we kept hearing from Brad is "I need to do better, I need to do better" and here are we are on the heels of the Celts getting dismantled in the 2nd round.

I was wondering the same thing. I concluded that Milwaukee turned up its defensive intensity a lot (watch game 1 - it’s like a different team) and Boston just crumbled. Yes, there was some other adversity (some bad whistles in game 3, but mostly they just had the fight taken out of them by a Bucks team that was excellent at protecting the rim and had the length and hustle to recover when the ball kicked out. In short, they gave up the will to fight and hero ball and early Ja were the result.

Kyrie is gone. That’s what it means.

It also probably means there is tension between CBS and DA because I bet CBS wanted to bench Kyrie.

Coaches have to say this stuff. It goes down better than "Seven of our top eight guys think they are better than they really are, and teams like that lose."

It's Danny's job to fix the roster problem. With any luck, we will bring back the 4-5 of those guys who are capable of self-reflection and commitment to team ball, plus another good-to-great player or two.

He should take responsibility because he was part of the problem. Much like Hayward, people on this site want to praise him when things go well them blame all the other players whenever the team loses. I guess Stevens carries the team when they win and then is a victim when they lose.
