Given that either Kyrie or Rozier won't be on the team next year at the minimum, the C's will need a guard like Smart on the bench.

Trading him in a talent consolidation move like a Davis trade is fine, but no reason to do so otherwise. He is signed long term to a cheap deal (if the shooting holds up) or a reasonable deal (if it regresses).

I knew the moment this thread was made that it wasn't going to end well.

Not to mention the fact that the fact Smart improved in literally every facet of his game. But now we should trade him?

And I have never seen a guy transform himself like that in the middle of a season, but I do know it takes awhile for the shot to kick in during games as opposed to practice.

It made me believe he still hasn't reached his ceiling yet.

Especially with his decision making.

It depends on the return.

Smart + Tatum + picks for Davis? Yes please.

Cant see Pelicans doing that

Especially with  griffin as their new GM

Last thing he wants to do is help the Celts unless both Brown , Tatum and Rozier (sign and trade) are involved

AD’s trade value should go down though as next year’s trade deadline gets closer. .all teams know he’s gone and might not re-sign (like Kawhi).

I'm sure Griffin will drive a hard bargain, but in the end he outline what he would want in an AD trade.

He literally said a prospective star (Tatum), a cost controlled role player on a good deal(Smart), and picks.

He will ask for more because that's what GMs do they haggle, but the bones of the trade seem pretty clear.

You don't trade warriors. You adjust their roles, or you may tweak their minutes.

You don't trade them unless you're stupid or don't want to win...or you're receiving an Anthony Davis type of asset.

Even then... over the long run, you'll miss Smart.

The only question that matters will be what are other teams are going to put on the table. What Griffin wants is irrelevant, except to weigh competing offers. They are going to have to take the best deal on the table this offseason. Their leverage deteriorates fast once the season starts.

Our core next season should be:

Irving
Smart
Brown
Horford
Davis
Hayward (6th man)

No...Smart will not be missed if Danny gets Davis in a trade that includes Smart. Tatum won't be missed either.

The C's will have a team that looks like:

Starters: Davis, Horford, Hayward, Brown and Kyrie.

Bench: Baynes, Morris(resign him), Semi, maybe Timelord if he isn't moved in the Davis trade, maybe a rookie if we send just 2 1st rounders, a couple of vets on minimum contracts(Jared Dudley seems perfect. Vince Carter would be good too) and Wanamaker.

That team wins 60 games and is probably a world championship team next year barring injuries. If that happens, no one is going to be lamenting the loss of Smart. People said the same thing about Al Jefferson in 2007. By June 2008 Celtic Nation was like "Big Al who?".

Call Roto Rooter if you think we're clogged up.

But don't trade Smart.....would not be Smart at all....

That’s pretty much my dream.  Maybe use some money on a slightly better backup PG, maybe not.

If Im the Pelicans Im taking Lakers offer of Ingram, Ball and Kuzma vs Smart and Tatum plus picks

Kyrie may put in a condition that he will resign only if AD comes onboard

But this would only happen if the Celts got smashed in the ECF or Finals

Ingram trade value is pretty iffy, triboy, due to blood clot.  Ditto Ball, due to disappointing play so far.

Consensus is that they will have difficulty competing with Celtics for offer.  Of course if they get a very high pick in this draft, that could change.
