The Ballstop Trio: Tatum, Rozier, Morris

I think those 3 guys should never share the floor together. As soon as one of them gets it, the ball sticks as all 3 players love to size their man up as they look for ways to score.

Granted, all 3 are talented catch and shoot players and, now and then, their ability to create their own shot is useful. But it looked like the bench with Hayward Brown and Wanamaker had much better rhythm.

Agree completely. I would never let these guys see the floor all at once.

Ideally one (or two! if only...) of Kyrie, Al, Gordy and Smart should always be on the court.

Not only are they ball stoppers, but they are also the worst defenders on the team. I don't even wanna count the amount of times last night that Rozier and Morris lost their man, and it resulted in easy points.

Rozier is quick and he sometimes steals a pass, but man he seems to lose his man or let him blow by a lot.

I think it is funny/ironic that Morris has continually talked about all the young kids and the team being a group of individuals when he is the one who "blackholes" the ball the most. Dude's had a good year but man has he been back to his frustrating ways over the last month or so.

After seeing a game in which Tatum is on fire and dropping 21 in a half, Tatum takes only two shots in a second half but still gets some assists. I'm not considering him a black hole. Rozier and Morris I can't defend.

Agree with OP.  I constantly wonder what type of discussion takes place while the team is watching film.

For a coach that preaches ball movement and "play the right way", Brad does not hold Morris, Rozier, or Tatum for their ballstopping ways.  Kyrie also goes into hero ball mode frequently, but at least he has a unique ability to score.  Why Brad continues to feed Rozier minutes he clearly does not deserve is one of the biggest mysteries of the season.  His minutes can be split between Brown, Smart, and Hayward.  It also puzzles me as to why Tatum now gets off the hook so often for his iso ball and poor defensive effort when Brad was benching him for these things early in the season.  Morris is just Morris - a selfish player who does a lot of talking but doesn't back it up with his actions.  You know that ball is going to be flying towards the rim once he touches it.

Marcus Morris has been a double edged sword for the team this season.  He bailed us out for the first few months with unsustainable shooting splits.  He's much better suited for a bench role where Brad can adjust his minutes on a nightly basis.  It was nice to see Brad make the lineup change for the Cavs and Pacers games.

we're too busy running plays for the role player marcus morris, the guy who hasn't got much of a future, the guy who should only see the ball when a more talennted player has to pass it off.

it's too bad there isn't another coach qualified to get these guys to play the right way.

Tatum's problem is that he struggles to find shots within the flow of the offense. He's either spotting up or going iso. He doesn't move well without the ball, where he can get easy looks from cuts, and his subpar defense doesn't lead to transition offense. As for his shooting, he has a slow release, so it's easy for defenders to run him off the line. All that said, it's pretty easy to see why he would struggle to find shots on a team with the talent we have.

Morris and Rozier are two of the most frustrating C's in recent memory. It's so obvious that they're playing for a contract. It's not only their bad shoot selection, but the stealing of rebounds is annoying too. Based on the eye test, I would say that we have a lot less transition looks when Rozier is in the game because he often unnecessarily goes down low to grab rebounds that his teammates have position on, instead of trying to leak out and receive an outlet pass to start the break.

How would you feel if we have to include Brown as well?  That's what it might take.  Very tough, but still think I have to do it.

TP for this, the truth sometimes hurts. There is a reason why Morris can't stick with a team, he's a black hole. Rozier is playing to get noticed. Tatum just doesn't know any better at this point, he's never had to be on a team that some of the talents is better than he.
