This feels like perhaps the Cs’ best hope to keep super-team dream alive:
1) Raps win
2) Cs agree to AD trade before draft
3) KD stays in GS on short-term contract bc now it’s been shown that they need him
4) Cs convince Kyrie to sign short-term deal & just give it a shot w/AD
I am missing the logic in a GSW loss making Durant want to return there. I could see where he might decide to return to max out his money or because he thinks it's his best chance to win, but so no reason why a Warrior loss makes him incentivized to stay there.

I think one of the talking heads on ESPN (Stephen A.) said something like this. I guess the rationale would be that he might not be perceived as a front-runner anymore?
It makes some sense to me.  And it would change Durant’s whole narrative should the Warriors lose this year without him and win next year with him.  I think that would validate the last couple titles a little bit more too.  This is assuming Durant’s biggest concern is a lack of respect.

Mark Murphy on Celtics Beat podcast with Adam Kaufman this morning says that Kyrie is gone, and doesn’t think Danny will trade for AD without him. A very sobering viewpoint. Also recounted all of the times Kyrie disrespected his teammates and coach throughout the season.

Don’t make sense to me. He has nothing more to prove if they lose without him. Them winning or losing will not affect his decision in my opinion.

I've thought about this too. Although Ainge could offer Kyrie a max deal (unlike other teams), he could potentially entice Kyrie just as much with a 1+1 offer with AD on board and see how things go.

Definitely risky but a chance that's worth taking (IMO.)

What helps the Celts in this regard is the hope that by next summer, all potential landing spots for both guys will have already tied up their cap space with other free agents.

Risky or not this team's been on an 11-year drought and if they don't cash in they're never going to win chips. Wait for free agent/available star A, B, C and they don't end up becoming Boston Celtics. I get that patience is a virtue but I'm sure we've all been patient for the last 11 years. It's cutting thin for me. Need to step in and make moves left and right.

I don't think this is true. Danny signed Horford, Hayward, and traded for [available star] Irving. All the while pretty much nailing his draft picks. This last season may not have gone as planned, but it's not like he hasn't been trying.

I agree that it makes sense to go for AD and hope Irving re-signs. Guys like AD - especially at his age - don't come along very often.

sobering?   it's the only thing danny can do, as trading for a guy that wants to be in LA in a year would be reckless and negligent to the organizations long term success not to mention his own job security.

And I think all the teams AD wants to join are about to use their cap space up on other people. Now is the best time. Lakers have no choice but to find talent NOW. If the bets get Kyrie and Durant they will be done, clippers get Kawh... like this is our chance right now.

I do agree that a Davis level talent is probably necessary to win a title in this environment. We may be looking at Kawhii in Toronto and Giannis in Milwaukee for some time, with Philly loaded too.

I'm hoping that Kyrie isn't here next year and AD is. I believe a pairing with AD would require a level of maturity from Kyrie he doesn't have. I'd be particularly terrified of Kyrie signing a shorter deal. That does mean that all of the pressure shifts to Ainge and Stevens to make the team appealing for Davis, but I think they can do what it takes.

I know Kyrie is very talented, but I just don't believe he's someone that can ever glue a team together. You can win with him if you need what he already is. You can't expect him to change or pull a team together.

Its all good.

Now we have 3 draft picks in a very very solid draft. And have 2 picks next season and can have the excitement of building a young team that can grow together.

Draft NAW, Samanic and 1 of Herro, thybule, okpala and roll on.

Smart/NAW/Wannamaker
Brown/Herro
Tatum/Hayward/Semi
Horford/Samanic
Baynes/Williams.

And team would have lle, resignings, full MLE to spend on bench help.

That team makes playoffs and because they will have the leagues best defense will be a threat in them

I mean... the Nets and magic made the playoffs to. You still have Baynes starting... that team isn’t doing much but hoping we can get pass the 2nd round.

If true, I could actually see this as bringing the team together next year for an “eff you” (eff Kyrie) season.

Well I would assume MLE would be used in a center.

Perhaps Dedmon or someone like that

The Celtics from what I have heard engaged pretty seriously on Clint Capella... have had some level of talks with Terry Rozier on a new deal. Everything is very fluid at this stage in the draft/trade process. It's finding out what you can do.

That sounds lovely, Horford-Capela is a very nice frontcourt. And Scary Terry back on a cheap deal would he good business if Kyrie leaves.
Jaylen Brown for All-NBA
