I did a video similar to this last month where I looked at Kyrie Irving's quotes about his future ("ask me again july 1st!', "I don't owe anyone ****!", etc) and tried to give them some context by playing them in their entirety and adding some commentary (ultimately coming to the conclusion that he still plans on staying). The video seemed to be well received, so I wanted to do a new one focused on this growing Kyrie Irving hate.
I'm taking a similar approach here. In this video, I talk a little about some of the reasons fans seem to be turning on him (the idea we're better without him, for instance) and discuss whether or not I think those reasons are fair... but I also dedicate a large chunk of this to a deep-dive in the last two months of public interviews Kyrie's given which have created the perception of him as a "terrible leader". I suspect that a lot of fans haven't been able to listen to these actual interviews in-context. In revisiting them, I was surprised to see just how often his quotes are taken out of context - or in the case one significant example ("the young guys don't know what it takes to win a championship") - not even a real quote.
Some have recently given me some flack for being a "homer" in supporting my favorite team's top player. I hope that if you're a fan out there who is basing your opinion of Kyrie on stuff you've read without listening to his actual words, you'll give this a shot.
