[Westerholm] Kyrie Irving says setting an example for the young guys is the most important thing: “And I don’t even want to call them young guys. They’re my teammates....“Someone once told me ‘inspiration comes from the mountain tops and maturity comes from the valleys.’”

Here's the full interview, it's one of his better ones. Either he's feeling better after a night's sleep or his agent told him his recent frustrations with the media isn't a good look.

It continues here as Kyle's video finished before the end of the interview:

Quotes:
“I didn’t really come into this game to be cameras in my face, be famous, be a celebrity, whatever embodies that. It’s a little hard for me. I wanted those things when I was younger, but now ... I just want to play basketball at a very high level.”

"The distractions that come with being in the team sometimes can get overwhelming," Irving told reporters, via NBC Sports. "I'm human so I just try not to let it seep into my teammates. That's the most important thing, you know. Setting an example for these young guys. And I don’t even want to call them young guys. They’re my teammates....“Someone once told me ‘inspiration comes from the mountain tops and maturity comes from the valleys.’”

""It's a constant battle b/c the media has just gotten outrageous. He's the greatest player playing in our game right now but even seeing somebody question Bron's body of work, my body of work, KD's body of work. Nobody should question what kind of winners those guys are."

Tp for the positivity!

Hers another ray of hope quote from KI today from D’Amico:

Quote
Kyrie was just incredibly professional, outspoken and open during his media avail at today’s practice. He admitted that he’s human and can get annoyed by all of the attention and scrutiny. Full transcript coming later.

He did say he gets annoyed easily when he starts to receive "gotcha" type questions where reporters are trying to get him to say something bad about his team or his teammates, or questioning his commitment to them, or trying to get a soundbite to create controversy on social media. Apparently the question someone asked him "what's your confidence level in this team" after the loss to the Blazers was what put him in a bad mood regarding the media for the next week, until today when he calmed down.

This was the question that set him off: https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/celtics/kyrie-irving-shuts-down-question-about-confidence-level-celtics

Sorry to rain in your parade

But why is he setting such crummy example then?

Lashing out at the cameraman? For what, doing his job?

Playing no gives a F on the defensive end. Constant empty no reaction stares/clap

Is he even awake?

Part of leading is taking responsibility. Not sure if Irving understands that role yet. He loves the lights and seeks them out when he is being praised but hates them when he is being called out. Maybe a more humble Irving wouldn't stick his foot in his mouth or feel there were offensive questions coming his way but simply concerned people that follow the team looking for answers.

He needs to be a PG. Get to know his teammates more. Get them in their spots helping make the game easier on everyone. And easier for himself cause when they have to watch out for guys in their spots they can't leave their man to double you.

Where's Al? Where's Smart? Last I checked, Irving wasn't the only "veteren" guy on the team. Heck, where's Hayward? Hayward legit sulks for most of the game (hmm, wonder why that gets dismissed).

Hmm.... I think  Nuke Laloosh would say something like, "My confidence in this team is very high.  We are going through a rough patch, but this is an awesome group of guys and we will figure this out!"

I guess Kyrie didn't think of that in the moment.

NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

Nah RJ, nobody else has to be held accountable. Didn't you get that memo?

TBH, I can relate to Hayward. I'd sulk too (and I do ;D)
