With the way this off-season is shaping up with all these teams having money to spend, it’s looking more and more like Horford will opt out of his 1 year for $30 Million dollar contract. If that were the case, what should be offered to retain his services? Could this be a Paul Pierce type of situation, where he take me a pay cut for more years?

3 years $75 Million
4 years $90 Million

What do you guys think?

This is a situation that's been hard to gauge for me.

I think it depends on what Ainge offers.

It depends on a lot of things. Like if Kyrie leaves.

Since a 3 year contract would be for ages 33-35, I would prefer something closer to 3/$60. I'm not at all interested in year 4 at the age of 36. If he says no, sayonara.

No more than 2 years guaranteed hopefully, like Millsap’s current contract

I think a 3 year $70-$75m will be fare, like you said with so many teams clearing cap space there will be teams left with a lot of money and no one to pay for, however, those team will most likely offer a 33 years old veteran short term contract, like 1 year 30m, so I don't think Horford will have a lot of option.

I assume that Horford will take a decent pay cut as long as Ainge is planning to keep him around for 3-4 more years.  He has made over $150 Million in his career.  At this point I think he values the opportunity to see this group reach its potential over the next few years.

You have to look at next season at $30 million as a sunk cost and think of it as an extension beginning in 2020.  What would he get as a free agent in the summer of 2020?  I would think 3 years at $15-$20 million per.  So I think 4 years $75-$90 million would be about right.  That would lower his annual salary to about $20 million per give or take a couple million.

He would be a great compliment to Davis on both ends of the floor.

I am not sure this is bad thing if we get Davis.    Could help the team, but CBS does not like playing a lot of bigs together.

3 years $75m definitely seems excessive.
