He had surgery 3 weeks prior on that same heel to remove a bone spur and also had a knee infection developing due to the incision.

Weakened tissue post surgery is very vulnerable, that's why you're in immobilized, in a boot, prevented from full running, etc.

Freak accidents happen, but that is some Serious bad luck

Team just announced it. Very different from the original diagnosis of a heel problem.  Could completely derail his career if his speed and explosion don't fully come back.

And he just learned his mother is fighting breast cancer.    As fans we often look at players as commodities, since we don't personally know them - for many Wall will be seen the way Gordon is seen right now, as an albatross contract, a curse on Washington. But there's a human side to injuries, particularly career-threatening ones. I feel for the guy. Best of luck to John during this difficult time of his life, he will need it.
