Woj:
"Above all else, Boston wants to keep Tatum. Going forward with a big three of Irving, Davis and Tatum -- and filling in the gaps around them as needed -- is probably the ideal scenario. If the Celtics feel it is necessary to hold off any Lakers coup, they can tell the Pelicans they will likely include Tatum in Davis trade talks in July.

That's risky, though. If Boston promises that in absolute terms, the Pelicans would expect the Celtics to hold to that assurance. Reneging would damage Boston's leaguewide credibility in a way that could take years to repair."

Why would the Pelicans take an offer without Tatum?

Why would the Pelicans take an offer without Tatum?

Woj makes it sound like its possible

Jaylen is the best singular talent on the table right now.

Celtics have the best collection of draft picks too.

If Brown keeps playing the way he is playing, then I don't think it will be much of an issue either way. I agree that Tatum is probably the better talent, but a Jaylen Brown who reaches his ceiling is no slouch.

Still, a package of (a new and improved) Brown, Smart, blah blah blah, Sac pick, and Mem pick is still ridiculously good. Perhaps Boston is willing to give up an additional 'prime' pick (both Mem and Sac) in addition to Brown, so that he can keep Tatum.

exactly

A package based around brown is still an elite package

I feel like it could be a poker move too

Maybe Boston wants to keep brown and them leaking that they "want to keep Tatum" increases tatums perceived intrinsic value

I hope we can keep one of the draft picks. I think this draft has solid players and we can reload with a nice solid contributor

Woj makes it sound like its possible

No, it isn't.  And Rozier is almost impossible to include, even if NOP wanted him.

And no, he doesn't make it sound possible at all.

No, but even mentioning that the Cs desire to keep Tatum seems to indicate that DA isn't exactly giving 'assurances' that he will definitely include him in a package. I mean, he might have already told NOP that he will, but then this would be a strange claim by Woj.

Another conspiracy theory in these exciting times, but I think someone on the Celtics has been giving Woj info. He’s the only guy who’s consistently pro-Celtics, talking up our assets, saying DA  would trade for Davis no matter what to show he was wanted, saying NO has no reason to deal and not “trade him to LA” like everyone else that isn’t local, and now it seems obvious we’d have to include Tatum and he was quoted about all this AD stuff as saying “it’s good to be wanted,” so now Tatum can look at this report and feel wanted here.

Woj has almost been the one man army against the Rich Paul smear job that’s coming at us from all sides..

I know Woj hasn’t really had close ties to the Celtics before but I wonder if we’ll see him get a few team scoops in the future that benefits him more than us.  Then it’ll be hard to convince me it’s not a quid pro quo.

There is no need to give any assurances yet. Just tell Demps Tatum is available and be done with it until the summer. Of course Ainge would like to keep Tatum, who wouldn’t? Doesn’t mean he will get to though.

I’m sure Ainge would “like” to keep Tatum but I legitimately have no idea how a deal like that would even work. It’s virtually impossible. Unless Hayward somehow returns to the Hayward of Utah I don’t see how the Cs going to swing that. Unless NOP are sooooo petty they will do anything to not deal him to the Lakers even if it means a lesser deal. But that would just be stupid for their franchise.

I'm thinking it could be  to keep Tatum  happy in the interim so we win in the playoffs and season

I don’t think it bothers him at all. If anything it’s a ego boost. He’s already said he’d trade himself for AD lol

Hasn't Woj also reported that the Celtics would make anybody other than Irving available?

Quote from: Woj
And I think, Boston has sent a message to the Pelicans, ‘Be patient. Wait for us, we are going to be in this and we’re going to be willing to talk about essentially everyone on our roster outside of Kyrie Irving.’

And then there was another report in the past 24 hours or so that the Celtics hadn't even spoken with New Orleans this week.

It's all contradictory, so at some point you shut out the talking heads and fall back on logic.  Would New Orleans trade a 25 year old MVP candidate for something less than our best prospect?  I don't see it.  We'll be lucky if we can only give up Tatum, rather than both Tatum and Jaylen.
