I think he has to promise Tatum as part of the deal

or lose AD forever to the god offer of Bron Camp

its a hard pill to swallow .  Its Bron that is forcing us to give up Tatum

I think ....as Danny i would put some stipulations of my own ,  like if AD says 100% no chance of staying , NO Smart in a trade that includes Tatum .

Got t dump old Al some how .

If Tatum isn't in the offer, there are other teams that will be able to beat our offer.  If I was the Pels, I'd look to trade Davis now if Tatum isn't in our offer.

I think they'd take the Lakers' package. Trading 2017 #2 draft pick, 2016 #2 draft pick, Kuzma, Hart, KCP and a pick sounds enticing than just Brown, one of Smart/Rozier/Morris, Yabusele, and four picks.

Why would the Pelicans take an offer without Tatum?
why not? Brown rozier and picks is still better than the garbage from LA

Woj makes it sound like its possible

No, it isn't.  And Rozier is almost impossible to include, even if NOP wanted him.

And no, he doesn't make it sound possible at all.

Another conspiracy theory in these exciting times, but I think someone on the Celtics has been giving Woj info. He’s the only guy who’s consistently pro-Celtics, talking up our assets, saying DA  would trade for Davis no matter what to show he was wanted, saying NO has no reason to deal and not “trade him to LA” like everyone else that isn’t local, and now it seems obvious we’d have to include Tatum and he was quoted about all this AD stuff as saying “it’s good to be wanted,” so now Tatum can look at this report and feel wanted here.

Woj has almost been the one man army against the Rich Paul smear job that’s coming at us from all sides..

I know Woj hasn’t really had close ties to the Celtics before but I wonder if we’ll see him get a few team scoops in the future that benefits him more than us.  Then it’ll be hard to convince me it’s not a quid pro quo.
MacMullen and Bulpett have been putting out info that little coming out about the Celtics and Kyrie is true, too. I think Blakely might have just put out an article too.

I’m sure Ainge would “like” to keep Tatum but I legitimately have no idea how a deal like that would even work. It’s virtually impossible. Unless Hayward somehow returns to the Hayward of Utah I don’t see how the Cs going to swing that. Unless NOP are sooooo petty they will do anything to not deal him to the Lakers even if it means a lesser deal. But that would just be stupid for their franchise.
If you were a GM and found out a rival team in your conference has been tampering with your star player, which made you go to the league to investigate that rival team to stop them from sabotaging your team, would you then turn around and trade that player to that rival team at a time that was most convenient for that rival team and not your team, and which would cause you not to maximize your value in losing your star player?

But Danny won't promise the Pelicans a wink

Pelicans won't know what the Celts will offer

Sounds like a great way to get Davis traded before the deadline.

Ainge has to show his hand at least somewhat.  His level of commitment will depend upon New Orleans'.

Not really what I was arguing. For the Cs to have a shot they need to get to the summer with AD still on NOP. If they don’t show some sort of commitment to include Tatum in a deal, why would NOP take them seriously? They have to at least put Tatum on the platter to get to the summer to have a chance.

He'd give up Tatum because he'd be getting a significantly better player.

Things will change if the Pels want the Celts to absorb Jrue Holiday's remaining 79m over the next 3 seasons.

If that's what the Pels want then Ainge can counter by not including Tatum in the deal.

The Pelicans books are in fairly good shape.  They're not going to give up significant value to clear salary, especially for a guy in his prime playing well.

People keep talking about the Lakers, but I'm not convinced that they're our biggest competition.  They're just the most vocal, and I think they're the ones manipulating the media machine the most right now.  But the reality is that Tatum is a better asset than any of the Lakers' young players, and that's a difficult hurdle for the Lakers to clear when attempting to convince NOP to deal before the deadline.

But I'd be paying very close attention to where that #1 pick falls.  If the Knicks get it, for example, then we have very real competition.  Zion probably trumps Tatum as an asset, and Smith/Knox/Robinson are a decent set of complementary young assets to choose from.  If that happens, then we'd probably have to include both Tatum and Brown - and then some - to win the sweepstakes.

That's when we'd have to start asking ourselves if it's really worth it to gut the roster for one player.

I'm sure Ainge would rather not give up Tatum, I'm also sure he absolutely will if he has to and he's gonna likely have to. I happen to like Jaylen Brown, I think he is a better asset than any of the Lakers guys. But I don't know how NOP trade Davis to us without getting back Tatum, from a simple PR perspective trading your MVP level guy and not getting back the other teams best young guy would be awful. I think this is a negotiating ploy, Ainge is reluctant to give up Tatum but will eventually include him with the concession that the rest of the package is lighter.
