Ainge isn't going to take a catastrophic, boneheaded risk of dealing Tatum + more for AD just to see AD go to LA the following year. He's only saying that to drive up LAL's price if they do trade for him, and/or also so that the C's will at least have a chance to make an offer for him this summer.

Right now, the focus should be getting past this deadline with AD still on the Pelicans. That's it. That's all we can control right now in terms of Anthony Davis.

After that, it's fair game. Every team that's legitimately interested can make their offers and make their pitches by next June/July, including Irving, Ainge, Wyc, etc.

I trust Ainge in whatever he does going forward. Some things he just can't control, but he's still trying to do what is best for the team long term. He isn't perfect obviously, but when you see the other situations with the organizations and GMs/Front Offices (look at the Knicks), then we should feel blessed.

Ainge takes risks, but he won't take a huge one here. He'll have to truly be convinced he believes AD will stick around long term. I hope Kyrie can help in that regard too.

Fear tactics by Danny.

He isn't trading Tatum for a pure rental, nor is he trading Brown. Only doing it with a commitment or legit belief he'll extend here.

I don’t think we’ll get a commitment.

I do think Danny has a legit belief that if we get him, he’ll stay.

Danny talked about this on 98.5 this morning.  He said he wouldn't hesitate to trade for a Superstar in a contract year as long as the player was open to being convinced to stay for the long term.  KG is the obvious example that comes to mind.  If AD is anything like Butler then Ainge will make sure to steer clear.

Im sure they have studied his psych to the best of their ability and are weighing the risks  .  The type of person AD is has alot to do with his desire to stay with Boston.  True blue characters like KG and PP always believed and can see the upside .

AD personality reminds me of Tatum , but thats just me .  I think he was raised correctly with good values .

A great reason to stay the heck out of LA.  A reason i think the Greek Freak will stay off the Lakers.

I mean theoretically that makes sense but how does one actually determine this. Does Ainge just go, "hey AD you want to be here long term with this contending core". "Umm, sure". "OKAY COOL LETS TRADE TATUM AND OTHERS"  :P

lol It's definitely not a cut and dry question.  He alluded to the fact that you need to do your research when it comes to learning about a players priorities.  I think Ainge needs some form of commitment that Davis would stay if the team was able to win.  Not sure if that means a title in year one or a competitive Finals appearance.  If there's no transparency from the player then I think Danny avoids making a deal.

Yet ANOTHER thread with Phantom telling us to relax when he is the one who needs to relax  :P

As far as an AD trade goes, I believe he will do whatever it takes to get him here and figure out the rest later. Horford and Hayward were great additions (at the time), but getting AD has most likely been Ainge's goal since he entered the league.

Right about now, he is actually nearly biting off his fingernails.  ;D

I mean, can you really blame me when this AD trade-saga comes at the same time as my first killer week of the semester  :P

I agree that we won't get a commitment either. That creates quite a risk to gut your team for, especially given that Davis has apparently put the word out that, come the summer of 2020, he is leaving for LA. Not sure what Ainge is basing his belief on.

Could be similar to the Paul George situation when he was traded to OKC. Everyone thought it would be a rental, but then George extended long-term. Guess it's hard to tell until they get to the team.

That being said, I am very wary of it blowing up in our face by him leaving in FA

It's like any of us going to a new job as well, you won't know until you get there if you will like it or not, and sometimes, if the organization has the right values, is managed well, has the right infrastructure around you, and shows that they care about you and have plans for you to grow and be successful, and you mesh well with your co-workers then that goes a long way towards convincing people to stay.
