The more I think about it, the more I'm liking the deal for New York as well.

They have plenty of cap space, they can try to sign two top free agents, and they'd still have assets in the form of their young guys to trade for Anthony Davis.

If none of that happens, they still have a solis core of young guys in DSJ, Knox, Mitchell Robinson and whoever they land in the draft. Roll their cap space for another year and continue to rebuild and grow.

I think its great for NY either way.

Yes... and in-fact I argued over the Summer that Boston could probably grab Zinger if they were willing to take on fat contracts, because the ends would justify the means for the Knicks.  Granted, that idea revolved around potentially sending them Kyrie (when the New York buzz was strong)... but the idea was still sound.  If they end up with Durant + another star + a top draftee ... it could be great for them.

Me this summer when the Knicks fail to sign top free agents...

What a poorly run team.

Dallas is going to be fun to watch.
Assuming Porzingis gets healthy and they keep him, it'll be a lot of fun.  Gonna have to look at their cap situation when the dust settles.  If they dump Barnes they might be able to free up max cap room to add another superstar to the mix.  Eddie20 suggested Durant was a possibility for them on my podcast and I agreed.  This seems to help that.

Maybe, either way they have two young stars that could be with the team for a long time.  They will have plenty of time to build around them.

What do they have now to trade for AD? Now that KP is gone I see them as OUT of the AD sweepstakes.

Why would Durant go to Dallas?  Doncic and Porzingis are good but neither are superstars.  Neither have any playoff history,  Porzingis has his health concerns.

They still have a pick that could be #1 overall. Dennis Smith Jr. Kevin Knox. The ability to take on bloated contracts from NOLA.

Porzingis was never going to be in the mix for an AD trade due to his pending RFA status.

Why not just turn around and do a sign-and-trade with the Warriors this Summer where they send them Hardway Jr and Lee's expiring for Durant...

If they salary dump Barnes they could have max cap room to sign another superstar along with Durant.

How about something like Kemba, Luka, Durant, Zinger or Luka, Kawhi, Durant, Zinger or Luka, Butler, Durant, Zinger?

I disagree. NO would have control over his contract; they could match any offer that Porzingis received.

There's talk he's signing the QO with Dallas. What would stop him from doing that NOLA? And given the timing that would be required to make the deal (after the trade deadline when NYK knows their draft position), you can't trade him as an RFA until a new deal (which would require a 3 month wait) or the QO is signed (which would give him veto power).

After getting past the shocked I like this deal for the knicks. Lee and Hardaway were like 30 million combineď, thats 2 first round picks to move off them. You get back Dennis smith who worth a first and another first from dallas. Thats 4 firsts of value for another 7'3 with a leg injury who is about to get massively expensive. You can chase free agents, but if you strikes out you can roll the cap space over to 2020 and case AD. Or sign KD and still maintain max space in 2020. And you have a top five pick + yoy can build smith value as a trade peice. What if you get KD, kemba and trade for a 3rd peice with those assets? Not bad.

Porzingis at center alongside Doncic at PF will be a matchup nightmare. Excited to see those two together.

No offense to your theory, but the reason they do this trade is because they realize they have no shot at a max guy. They just traded expirings for 30 million in contracts and whatever they pay KP. No room for a max guy. Also GS is not under any circumstances taking Lee/Hardaway for KD becuase of luxury tax cobsiderations. You pay a massive tax for KD, not for those two guys.

Dennis Smith Jr. or no Dennis Smith Jr., the Knicks grand plan is to sign Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

It will take more then Kevin and Kyrie to be a contender...they'd need a much better supporting cast than Durant and Westbrook
had on Thunder.
It would a very good start though.

What if they have AD? They have the assets to get him now with DSJ, Knox, Robinson, draft picks and to some extent Zion/Barret/Morant. You land AD with those assets, it's now more enticing for Kyrie and KD to come.
