Knicks are going to have 2 max spots and nobody to spend it on.

The timing of the deal also is a pretty sure fire indicator that New Orleans has no intentions of dealing AD before the deadline. Otherwise the Knicks probably would've pitched deep and tried to get something done.

I think this might show the true, uninflated value of Porzingis.

I know the New York hype machine disagrees, but here is the breakdown:

Jordan and Matthews are better players than Lee and Hardaway in a vacuum, and their contracts are better than Lee's and Hardaways.

Since a mid-tier first round pick roughly costs 15 million to get off of, New York is giving up the value of two mid-tier first rounders in this deal (Zinger) to get two guys who will likely be bought out and a prospect guard (and "draft considerations").

BTW. Jordan as a buyout candidate anyone?

Jordan and Matthews do not have better contracts than Lee and Hardaway because they are both expiring. Knicks don't care much about who they pay in yet another lost season, but they care a lot about who they DON'T have to pay next year.
As well as getting rid of a huge cap hold in Zinger if he wasn't in the long term plans. That $17 million cap hold disappearing really helps in opening up space as much as the actual salary they got rid of too.

This was interesting in the Globe:

With new rumors swirling about point guard Kyrie Irving’s future in Boston, a league source with ties to the All-Star point guard said Irving has given no indication that he will back down from his October proclamation that he will re-sign with the Celtics at season’s end.

The source added that Irving could change his mind before July 1, but added that if he does, it almost certainly would not be to reunite with LeBron James, calling that notion “a joke.”

If anyone wants to discuss which team has had the best foreign players ever, and I would stick with foreign and leave skin color out of it, please start another thread. It is off topic here and hyjacking threads is against site rules.
wow ok.  Seems super sensitive, but word.

If Zinger actually takes the qualifying offer (leaving a ton of money on the table) as he's threatening to do, that would make him an unrestricted free agent in 2020.  That's interesting, because if we strike out on Davis and Kyrie bolts, that will be the Summer when Horford's money comes off the books and if we salary dump Hayward we could be looking at max cap room to target Zinger.   Interesting stuff.

Me this summer when the Knicks fail to sign top free agents...

What a poorly run team.

Dallas is going to be fun to watch.

Assuming Porzingis gets healthy and they keep him, it'll be a lot of fun.  Gonna have to look at their cap situation when the dust settles.  If they dump Barnes they might be able to free up max cap room to add another superstar to the mix.  Eddie20 suggested Durant was a possibility for them on my podcast and I agreed.  This seems to help that.

Dennis Smith Jr. or no Dennis Smith Jr., the Knicks grand plan is to sign Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

It will take more then Kevin and Kyrie to be a contender...they'd need a much better supporting cast than Durant and Westbrook
had on Thunder.
It would a very good start though.
