Stein says Porzingis to Dallas is imminent  :o :o :o

For maybe Smith Jr, DeAndre's expiring...what else? Maybe a pick? Is that really enough? Wild if true.

What a steal for Dallas. Unreal if true.

Dennis Smith Jr. or no Dennis Smith Jr., the Knicks grand plan is to sign Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

I think this might show the true, uninflated value of Porzingis.

I know the New York hype machine disagrees, but here is the breakdown:

Jordan and Matthews are better players than Lee and Hardaway in a vacuum, and their contracts are better than Lee's and Hardaways.

Since a mid-tier first round pick roughly costs 15 million to get off of, New York is giving up the value of two mid-tier first rounders in this deal (Zinger) to get two guys who will likely be bought out and a prospect guard (and "draft considerations").

BTW. Jordan as a buyout candidate anyone?

Jordan and Matthews do not have better contracts than Lee and Hardaway because they are both expiring. Knicks don't care much about who they pay in yet another lost season, but they care a lot about who they DON'T have to pay next year.

That's exactly why it's a better contract

Years ago Warner Wolf comes on to the mike on the Imus show. He was beside himself...

"If you had the Knicks at home last night with 24 points? You lost!"

It would be classic Knicks to set out for Kyrie and Durant and end up giving up max contracts to Kemba and Middleton.

Stein says

Quote
The Knicks would receive Dennis Smith Jr. and the expiring contracts of DeAndre Jordan and Wes Matthews in the proposed trade, according to league sources

and

Quote
The Knicks would also receive future first-round draft compensation from the Mavericks and, by shedding the contracts of Hardaway and Lee, create the salary-cap space this summer to pursue two maximum contract free agents

So they ditch Hardaway who they sent away once then grossly overpaid to resign, plus Lee who they overpaid...hell of a thing to give away your only high-level young guy mostly to erase your own dumb signing decisions.

Doubt the Knicks do this without getting some assurances from someone (KD? Kyrie? Leonard?) that they plan to sign with them.  This is so weird. Can't believe they give up on Zinger like that.  NY media is going to hit the roof.

By my quick calculation, NY has only $21+ million or so in guaranteed contracts for next year. To state the obvious, they plan to be active in the free agent market. Durant? Irving?

They have no assurances.  Thats nonsense. They need to get out of the lottery. They need to make moves. They're finally committing to a rebuild.  They have no assurance, they're banking on ping pong balls, the NBA trend of teaming up, and bright lights, big city.  Porzingis has been a cry baby complainer since he got here, they were done.

Let me just say this - while I HIGHLY doubt that the Knicks will get two A-level stars, this kind of stuff does make it all the more important to get AD this summer if available. Have to show Kyrie that we’re ready and willing to spend for a winner.

If anyone wants to discuss which team has had the best foreign players ever, and I would stick with foreign and leave skin color out of it, please start another thread. It is off topic here and hijacking threads is against site rules.

It doesn't matter. Its still the best move for the franchise.  They needed to tear it down and reset to bad.
