I wonder if Brown, Morris, Rozier S&T, SAC/Memphis/Clippers, and one of Boston's pick, along with anyone else not named Smart/Tatum would be convincing enough.

For a rental there is no need to offer that much.

Kyrie
Tatum
Hayward
AD
Horford

May be the starters next year.

S&T is tricky as I believe the rule is you still can’t combine players in a S&T deal.

Can anyone explain why Loomis has a say?

Demps and his basketball operations staff handle trade discussions, but Loomis -- the Saints' top football executive -- will have a significant voice in how the Pelicans proceed with the Davis saga.

My guess is he is very close to the Benson family and they value his input.

Demps is probably getting fired. And a trade of this magnitude is will have to be approved by all levels - ownership included.

Biggest obstacle in this whole thing is trying to resign AD with Rich Paul as his agent. He is going to make it very difficult to resign. He is going to have LeBron's best interests in mind before anyone else.

especially in this proposal where you'd have to S&T Morris in addition to Rozier

So basically what everyone has been trying to tell the naysayers on here:

Ainge confident that getting Davis makes Irving re-signing a lock and that re-signing makes Davis walking after a year unlikely.

I don't think Ainge includes Tatum without assurances of AD signing. He either has to keep Brown or Tatum and give up the picks. He will not do it all unless he gets assurances.

AD will realize the Lakers will not have the cap flexibility next year to sign other players like they will this offseason.

It now becomes Kyries job to sell AD on staying like Westbrook did with PG13.

Yep. they help each other. They are linked. Get one...you get the other pretty much. Ainge trades for AD, Kyrie resigns and then helps recruit AD to stay in Boston. Pretty simple.

I think that keeping Tatum out is his way of protecting himself from AD being just a rental. You tell NO that the risk is high he doesn't resign so we are not giving you our best young player and 4 number one picks.

I want to see what crap Boston has to take back with AD from NO...

Not returning Lakers' calls.

Love it.

How can Lakers preserve cap space to sign Davis in 2020?  Think Lebron is going to keep playing with those punks for another season?

Nope. James does not even want to play with them this year. He is milking this groin injury big time. Lakers need AD now. They know if they don't get him before next week, things will be difficult. Rich Paul is the guy dumping these accusations about Kyrie leaving to scare everyone away.

Forget that. In the summer of 2020 James will be turning 36 a few months later. He could be a shell of himself in 2 years, which would likely give Davis pause. Pretty reasonable to believe that the James of today will not be the same James then.

I am just confused why AD wants to play with an old LeBron...in order to get him in a trade, they would have to give up any good young player they have...Lakers have no good picks.

So he plays with LJ maybe 2 years? And it isn't going to be vintage LBJ....

But if he resigns in Boston, the Cs would own the east, have a core of young player around him and are built to win for 10 plus years...If it really is about championships with AD...Boston is the only team to go to.

I think we might get away with a deal that doesn't include both Jays, but I don't think we'll get away with one that doesn't have one and Robert Williams. Plus some firsts of course but I don't think there's any way we have to give up 4 on top of that. We'd be bidding against ourselves at that point.

Can someone explain how an S+T would work in this kind of scenario? Like, would be S+T'ing say Morris for a small salaried Pelican and a trade exception (assuming NO has the cap space etc etc), then use the trade exception in the "separate transaction" for Davis to send out less salary than we take back? Is that more or less right?
