Why is Wesley Matthews signing with The Pacers? Don't most buyout players want to play for a contender? Weird...
He'll start for the Pacers and get a lot of playing time to maximize his value in free agency.

Good point.

The problem is he has an injury to his cervical cord, and is seeing a 2nd specialist. I guess it we miss out on everyone we can roll the dice and hope he's good by the playoffs

According to @SBondyNYDN, Enes Kanter may be headed to Boston. Makes sense.

Dedmon all the way. He’s been a favorite of mine for a long time. Would even want to extend him.

I like that a lot.  He brings rebounding and toughness.  Can't have enough of that.

Well the Celtics better get him.

But I'm afraid the Brad Stevens philosophy wants him to be able to shoot 3's so probably not.

I'm not sure "the Celtics have been floated as a potential destination" means anything.  Floated? ???

If we sign someone to the MLE for two years, could we trade that player, Tatum, Yabu, Williams, and draft picks for Davis?  Those four players would count for about $18 million which is a few million short.  I'm not sure how much the draft picks would count for or the rules of a player just signed to the MLE.

I'm trying to figure out how we could keep Brown and Smart.

The picks that are translating would count as value in the trade.

So tatum, yabusele, mle (8.6 mill this season, with raises over 9 mill next) will come in at just shy of 20 million.

Davis is at 27 mill next season.

The picks that convey and cash considerations will cover the difference

Thanks, TP.  Wouldn't that be the ideal scenario?

We are taxpayers so the MLE would be $5.34M (second year, $5.6M), not $8.6M, I'm afraid. It would still make a difference, for sure, but we would need to come up with more of the difference.

Doesn't the bird trade put us below lux?

No, we are still above it.
Yabu needed to be moved to get below the line, but I guess we are keeping his salary for the AD trade.

Yup, that makes the deadline lack of moves even less intelligent.

Only 1 roster spot available, ibto lux tax for a non contender, everone around us got better, less salary to be able to trade for Davis which means losing probably losing williams too, and not being able to offer a higher mle might hurt chances at signing the cream of the crap pile of buyouts

That makes me want him more.  International fugitive coming off the bench.
