I don't think guys worked on their game in the off season and believed their own hype.  Some of the issues can be explained.   I thinK there are some things that have nothing to do with Stephen A's comments.

Brown's shot is gone
Tatum worked out by overcomplicated his game
Kyrie came into camp out of shape

If a guy is not hitting shots, would you pass to them?   I think teams are crowding the upper key area and defending the three much better this year because they know there is little threat that we will attack the rim.

I hate to say it, but a trade might be necessary at some point.

That team drove me crazy during the 27-27 stretch.

At least that team was (a) on the older side and (b) had won a championship two years previous.

Still, that team made life difficult for themselves unnecessarily.  Also, missing out on HCA for the Finals probably cost them that title.


This Celts team has too many younger players, and has not accomplished nearly enough, to get away with taking nights off the way that 2010 team did.

It's not the fact that they're slumping, it's their offensive style that's bothering me.  I felt that way when their record looked pretty good a few weeks ago.  They're not trying to get to the rim enough and therefore also not getting to the free throw line.

One way I would put it is that they're a super talented team that runs their offense as though they're a low-talent team that needs to rely on streaky outside shooting in order to win.

You’re completely missing my point. Even a team with those great players struggled early to find their groove.

Oh, and Dallas didn’t have those players either and still whooped them.

Steven A....said he thought Brad and Danny messed the chemistry of the team up with too much use of Hayward to often too,  starting ,  too soon. .  Trying to force fit a less than 100 % player back into the lineup ,  unraveled the starting unity.   Especially Brown.  CBS trying too hard to force Hayward back ,  has upset his rotations .  Maybe CBS has too much personal interest of Gordon teturn let all that get in the way of logical coaching .

I tend to agree .  I think thats where it all started . The domino effect has the whole team off kilter.

It's such a weird situation since the team just doesn't need Hayward anymore after last year.

In the hypothetic situation that Hayward had been a free agent last summer directly from Utah (last year just didn't happen and no injury) and the Celtics had cap space would it have made any sense to sign him with (especially!) Tatum, Brown and Morris already on the roster?

Of course not. The Celtics would have tried to sign a big complementary to Horford.

Still I'm not (immediately) in favor of trading Hayward (unless Beal is relatively cheap), since he has no value on the market. I hope he can rehabilitate himself in a Ginobili-type of role, but he will never be the star some Celtics-fans hoped he would become. We just have to get that idea out of our minds.

It is lack of the very hard work, trust and comittment that it takes to play great team man-to-man defense. We somehow went from ending last season with that mindset to starting this season with a mindset that we don't have to work so hard on defense to win games.

Same goes for ball movement on offense.

Same goes for rebounding on both ends.

This team listened to all the summer hype and allowed the idea into their minds that they were now talented enough to not have to work so hard to win games. And Brad Stevens is apparently too afraid of his players to tell them to play the right way or sit.

1) Yes, we are the 2nd best defense in the league cause we let people score however they want.
We are showing slippage in that department, as we were the no.1.

2) I'm afraid that is also true, Brad is cowering in the corner of the locker room when players speak (per Chris Broussard and his sauces). He has to run "suicides" in the gym if he speaks without players permission. One more thing that I think is going on under a radar, but I can't confirm it yet, is that his wife molests him. Allegedly, he can speak freely at home (between 3-4 am), but everything he does say is dumb, not a surprise. She believes that he should change the lineups each game.
