Tough to block a dunk in 2k8? Um, it should be. How often do dunks get blocked?

2k8 is a good game but it is far from the best game ever.

That would be NBA Live 2005.

Why NBA Live is better than 2k8. First off, the direct pass is much much better. When you direct pass to a player, it doesn't move him off the 3pt line like in 2k8. So when you have that player spotting up for 3, you can direct pass to him and he actually stays at the 3pt line unlike 2k8.

I don't have that problem at all. If you noticed, you can hold the left analog stick to the direction you want your pass recipient to catch the ball in. When I pass it to them without the directional, my players don't go towards or away from the 3-point line, so you must be holding the left stick down when you pass. Otherwise, I have no idea what you're talking about.

And even if the players weren't in perfect position every time... that's realism, baby. Can you sit here and honestly tell me that every kickout pass a guard makes in the NBA lands directly at the chest of the recipient? No, half the time, players have to adjust their position in order to catch the ball.

Also the shooting is much better. In 2k8, everyone has different release points which is highly annoying. You have to lab every different release point, and if you have 2 players who look the same, it's tough in the heat of the moment to remember which release point to use. In NBA Live, all release points where the same.

So realism and accurate signature shots is annoying to you? Odd...

Nba Live was also easier to play defense in. In 2k8 is mad tough to block a dunk, it's almost impossible. Basacally if you get the dunking animation, it's over for the defense. In Nba Live you could actually block someones dunk like they do in the real NBA.

Oh, so you're saying that you have a tough time playing lock down defense in 2k8... and that's a deficiency? How so? Because you need to get better and you can't just lock down the CPU now? That's a plus for me.

And blocking a dunk SHOULD be hard like bostonfan said. I even remember the crap animation Live used to have for blocked dunks... you could do it literally EVERY time a player drives to the basket and it wouldn't be a normal block. The dunker would stop dead-center in mid-air, with obvious body contact and no whistle. I remember playing Live 2005, I had the game. I probably blocked 15-20 shots per game, it was too easy.

The AI is also pretty dumb in 2k8. In live it was much better.

How is the AI dumb in 2k8?

By reading this post, you don't like it because it's a more competitive game with realistic animations that you just don't feel like getting used to. That is nowhere near a fault to NBA 2k8. Realism is everything, and NBA 2k8 has taken it to a whole 'nother level. Would you rather be able to easily win games and have every single player's movements, animations, and jump shots look the same? If so, more power to you, but I think that's ridiculous.

Ok then they should at least foul them and make them have to earn it at the line. Instead they just dunk all over the defenders without the defenders being able to block it or foul to prevent the easy 2.

The whole point of using the direct pass is when you are dribbling and you want to make a pass cross court to the open guy. It's ridiculous to stop your dribble in order to make a pass, as the defender can easily strip the ball.

And realism and sig shots are far from annoying. What is annoying is having to release the shot stick or X button (whichever you use) at different times for different players and having to remember all of those release points esp in the heat of the moment when the ball is kicked out for an open 3.

Are you kidding me with a tough time playing defense? I can play d much better than you can, pls don't act like i'm horrible at the game. I was so good you kicked me outa my league because you clamed I cheated when everyone backed me up and just said I was better than you guys. This year i'm ranked in the top 200 online, it doesn't mean I am in love with the game just because I am nasty at basketball games.

BTW you can play some stupid lockdown d this year by pullin down I think it's the right trigger, which is ridiculously cheap, really unrealistic too, but i'm sure you'd just claim it was glitching LOL.

And the AI is really dumb in 2k8 when half of them can't even put up a hand when the opponent is taking a jump shot in their face. The AI is also retarded on the fast break when they don't go to double team even when you press the button when the guy should be going 1 on 3 but instead only has to go 1 on 1 unless you manually double because the AI is too dumb to realize to go for the double team itself even though they are standing picking their ass guarding no one.

Just got NBA Live 08, today. Now I got both Live and 2k. Live improved but no where near 2k this year. I started an association in 2k and did fantasy draft. My team after 1 season..

PG: Chris Paul/ Chris Duhon/ Rajon Rondo
SG: Andre Iguodala/ Terance Kinsley/ Shannon Brown
SF: Kevin Durant/ Thaddeus Young/ Travis Outlaw
PF: Lamarcus Aldridge/ Jaokim Noah/ Jason Smith
C: Andrew Bynum/ Earl Barron/ Robert Smith(cpu generated rookie, 2nd overall pick, btw)

After 1 season my lineup is

Devin Harris/Sergio Rodriguez/Brandon Roy
Kevin Martin/THabo Sef/Roy
Brandon Roy/Adam Morrison/Jared Dudley
Lamarcus Aldridge/Channing Frye/Ryan Gomes
Greg Oden/Frye/Pryzbilla

Lamarcus Aldridge's jumphook from the left side is a thing of beauty in that game, he's my secret weapon when I just gotta have 2 points, also he's got a nice midrange shot

2k8's association is just a joy to play.

I have been playing with the Celtics online alot and i have even gone into practice mode and im finding the same problem.

Ray Allen is horrible at shooting 3's in the game.

House, Posey, Pierce, Scalabrini in that order are much better 3 pt shooters

Anyone else having the same problem?

I haven't noticed that at all.  In fact, although I'm doing terribly in my season (2-10 so far), Ray Allen has been the one bright spot, averaging about 25 per game on lights-out shooting.  It's made him my favorite Celtic for this year!

Of course, I never play online and I'm using the PS3 version of the game.  Don't know if that makes any difference...

Like I said in my post above, one of the many things I hate about the games is that players have different release points. You need to go to quick game, put in 2 controllers (1 for each team, and shoot wide open 3's by moving the player who is guarding them away from them and expiermenting with different release points to find the right one for a certain player. This is obviously highly annoying).

To answer your question, Ray Allen has a quick release point. Much quicker than the ones you are mentioning, so that is why you are having trouble, you are holding the X button or Shotstick for too long before releasing it.

I actually really liked the diff release points, but Kevin Martins just killed me. It was like Shawn marions has been for years, a line drive approach. I changed his to Ammo's, which is really high with easy to figure out animation.

27-5 with my fantasy draft team in 2k8, so far. Playing superstar and 10 minutes a quarter. Durant is my leading scorer with 23.4 ppg. Chris Paul leads my team with 9.9 assists and 2nd in the league I believe.

Arg I disagree. I like how they have their real life shots, I just wish all release points where the same because it's annoying to lab them and even more annoying to remember who has what release point, esp when you kick the ball out to them for an open 3.

CelticsDynasty, I still don't think you're point about signature shots is valid. You dislike it because you don't want to have to remember the releases. It's not hard at all, especially if you watch basketball and know how these guys shoot and play. But again, just because you don't want to have to learn releases doesn't mean it's a fault in the system. This is far from a problem with the game. In fact, it's one of the things that makes it so great - realism.

About the league last year, people complained about you, they didn't back you up. I don't want to get into it, because it's pointless to get into an argument about something that happened a year ago, but you were removed because 3-4 people complained.
