2k8 is a good game but it is far from the best game ever.
That would be NBA Live 2005.
Why NBA Live is better than 2k8. First off, the direct pass is much much better. When you direct pass to a player, it doesn't move him off the 3pt line like in 2k8. So when you have that player spotting up for 3, you can direct pass to him and he actually stays at the 3pt line unlike 2k8.
I don't have that problem at all. If you noticed, you can hold the left analog stick to the direction you want your pass recipient to catch the ball in. When I pass it to them without the directional, my players don't go towards or away from the 3-point line, so you must be holding the left stick down when you pass. Otherwise, I have no idea what you're talking about.
And even if the players weren't in perfect position every time... that's realism, baby. Can you sit here and honestly tell me that every kickout pass a guard makes in the NBA lands directly at the chest of the recipient? No, half the time, players have to adjust their position in order to catch the ball.
Also the shooting is much better. In 2k8, everyone has different release points which is highly annoying. You have to lab every different release point, and if you have 2 players who look the same, it's tough in the heat of the moment to remember which release point to use. In NBA Live, all release points where the same.
So realism and accurate signature shots is annoying to you? Odd...
Nba Live was also easier to play defense in. In 2k8 is mad tough to block a dunk, it's almost impossible. Basacally if you get the dunking animation, it's over for the defense. In Nba Live you could actually block someones dunk like they do in the real NBA.
Oh, so you're saying that you have a tough time playing lock down defense in 2k8... and that's a deficiency? How so? Because you need to get better and you can't just lock down the CPU now? That's a plus for me.
And blocking a dunk SHOULD be hard like bostonfan said. I even remember the crap animation Live used to have for blocked dunks... you could do it literally EVERY time a player drives to the basket and it wouldn't be a normal block. The dunker would stop dead-center in mid-air, with obvious body contact and no whistle. I remember playing Live 2005, I had the game. I probably blocked 15-20 shots per game, it was too easy.
The AI is also pretty dumb in 2k8. In live it was much better.
How is the AI dumb in 2k8?
By reading this post, you don't like it because it's a more competitive game with realistic animations that you just don't feel like getting used to. That is nowhere near a fault to NBA 2k8. Realism is everything, and NBA 2k8 has taken it to a whole 'nother level. Would you rather be able to easily win games and have every single player's movements, animations, and jump shots look the same? If so, more power to you, but I think that's ridiculous.
