I don’t understand why the Lakers did this; they aren’t a tanking team and they would owe a lot less money (in dead money) to him if he just played out the year. I see that Deng left a few million behind; I wonder if he asked for the buyout as to not be part of the Lebron circus.

NOP might be a good landing spot for Deng.

My understanding is that by waiting until they did his full salary counts this year and then next season's salary is stretched over three seasons. The end result is the same as had they held onto him all year and waived him next summer, only he gives back more money to not waste a year of what's left of his career, you keep from p---ing off him/his agent any further, and he doesn't take up a roster spot. I might be wrong about the money, but if I'm not it makes sense.

Oh, okay, that makes a lot more sense then. Thanks (and TP) for the clarification!

Agreed, the Pelicans would be an excellent spot for him.

Feel Deng is done. Rather trade for VC if I was looking for a SF

SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Good call NOP is probably ideal.

Minnesota my guess
Familiarity...it will doom Minnesotta.
Take a few minimum contracts in the short term (Rose, Deng) to lose a few max contracts in the long run (KAT, Jimmy).
There is a reason why Minnesota is the worst franchise in the NBA history.

Denver and NOLA are good spots that might have some use of him.

They're kicking the tires on Noah, too.  Lol.

Oh my god!  I thought you made a pretty good joke until I clicked on the link!  Then Thibs can play these guys who hardly played last year 38 minutes a night.
