These media leaks, I think, are for entertainment purposes only.

Smart's agent and Ainge have their deal which is the qualifying offer.

It is up to another team to make an offer. Without competition, the QO is what he is worth. (Just think of trying to live on $500,000 a month?)

He is not frustrated the Celtics aren't offering him more, he;'s frustrated that the market for his free agency isn't more.

He'll be fine and back in the playoffs again with a top 4 team. I have a hard time feeling sorry for him, he is in an excellent situation.....not to mention being my favorite player.

Here are the 13 restricted free agents left on the board with their one-year qualifying offer listed: Marcus Smart ($6M), Zach LaVine ($4.3M), David Nwaba ($1.7M), Rodney Hood ($3.4M), Yogi Ferrell ($2.9M), Patrick McCaw ($1.7M) Clint Capela ($4.7M), Montrezl Harrell ($1.8M), Jabari Parker ($4.3M), Jusuf Nurkic ($4.7M), Bryn Forbes ($1.7M), Kyle Anderson ($3.2M) and Davis Bertans ($1.7M). With such a limited market it will be tough to go out an get an offer sheet with only Atlanta, Chicago and Sacramento having significant room. Signing the qualifying offer would make each player an unrestricted free agent in 2019 and give them veto power on any trade.

Smart is frustrated by how the Celtics haven't reached out to him.

“He loves the Celtics, but with these crickets he’s hearing, he’s hurt and disgusted by it,” said the source.

The market for restricted free agents like Smart has been soft.

“I don’t think that bothers Marcus as much as no communication from Danny (Ainge),” said the source.

Danny Ainge declined comment on Thursday.

Boston's only tangible bid remains their $6.05 million qualifying offer.

He would have thought there would have been some kind of three- to four-year deal from them to show they’re interested,” said the source. “But the qualifying offer is the only one he has received, and there’s been no talk since free agency opened. He’s most disappointed that there has been no reaching out from their end.

“He’s just hurt and frustrated that Danny hasn’t reached out. That’s the most discouraging part of this whole thing. The last contact was a few days before free agency started.”

Smart believes he's worth more than $14 million a year ( http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/23628377/marcus-smart-restricted-free-agency-worth-more-12m-14m )

Sources: The Boston Celtics and Marcus Smart have had good dialogue on a new deal. Still not there, but neither side is in a rush. With cap space drying up around the league, it lessens need to rush to a new contract.

I believe Keith Smith rather than Murphy’s sauces.

I'm learning that when so called journalists use terms like "sources", it usually means they are pulling the story out of their butt.

Ask yourself WHY would this be?  We have no other plans for personnel that outrank him.  Danny has already said the big deal is probably not happening, so while the Leonard situation isn't settled, it doesn't appear the Celtics will get involved.

Baynes is signed...so that leaves Smart.  So to believe there is radio silence on the Celtics part is baloney.  Until I hear Smart say it himself, it's clickbait garbage to me.

At this point I'm just not going to believe anything I hear from any of these media 'sources' until I see confirmation from the player himself.

Two days ago Smart and the Celtics were making good progress towards a deal, now he's frustrated.  I'm supposed to believe that the Celtics have made retaining Smart their #1 priority this offseason, yet at the same time they apparently haven't even been talking to him.  Riiight. There have been similar contradictory 'news' reports on many of the other free agents this past week (or months, in Kawhi's case).

Miss me with this crap.

This seems like it can be pretty neatly explained by "1st story is a team source, 2nd story is a Marcus source, neither one is quite being honest"

Smart was 1-10 in game 7, and Danny has offered him $6 million dollars.

He also was photographed with a big bag of weed, and he hurt his hand punching a picture in a hotel room.

He is a great defender, but a poor shooter.

It's Smart's agent trying to drum up some interest from other teams.  That we're a week into free agency and no one's come out with a big offer is probably a good sign for the Celtics - and not a good one for the agent hoping to keep his client happy and get a decent commission at the same time.

This is how "restricted" free agency works.  Go get an offer you like Marcus, then let us know so we can discuss.  Talking about an injury you did to yourself?  Complaining to the media?  Want us calling you when you are helping your mother?  This "news" is either total horseEdited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. or maybe Marcus is just a another big baby.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
Danny is going to give him more than QO. He is just letting Marcus know his value is not the 14 mil he thinks. I heard on radio give a 10 mill with player option next year for 14.

Considering that offer wouldn’t be legal by the CBA, I think you should find a different radio station.

Year 1 at $10 million means the second year would be at $10.8 mil.  But he’s not giving a 1+1 starting at $10 million, so whoever this was made up all kinds of rubbish.
