Smart is frustrated by how the Celtics haven't reached out to him.

“He loves the Celtics, but with these crickets he’s hearing, he’s hurt and disgusted by it,” said the source.

The market for restricted free agents like Smart has been soft.

“I don’t think that bothers Marcus as much as no communication from Danny (Ainge),” said the source.

Danny Ainge declined comment on Thursday.

Boston's only tangible bid remains their $6.05 million qualifying offer.

He would have thought there would have been some kind of three- to four-year deal from them to show they’re interested,” said the source. “But the qualifying offer is the only one he has received, and there’s been no talk since free agency opened. He’s most disappointed that there has been no reaching out from their end.

“He’s just hurt and frustrated that Danny hasn’t reached out. That’s the most discouraging part of this whole thing. The last contact was a few days before free agency started.”

Smart believes he's worth more than $14 million a year ( http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/23628377/marcus-smart-restricted-free-agency-worth-more-12m-14m )

We should offer him a multi year deal for something like 7 million a year.

Sounds like to me Danny did reach out with the Q.O.

Your move to contact Danny and decline or accept Marcus.

You don't negotiate through the media, that's why you have heard nothing but crickets from Danny.

Ainge isn't going to bid against himself.  It's just business and business can be harsh sometimes.  I hope Smart has a good agent who can explain that well to him so that there isn't any lingering resentment once this is over whether he re-signs or not.

At this point I'm just not going to believe anything I hear from any of these media 'sources' until I see confirmation from the player himself.

Two days ago Smart and the Celtics were making good progress towards a deal, now he's frustrated.  I'm supposed to believe that the Celtics have made retaining Smart their #1 priority this offseason, yet at the same time they apparently haven't even been talking to him.  Riiight. There have been similar contradictory 'news' reports on many of the other free agents this past week (or months, in Kawhi's case).

Miss me with this crap.

Translated this means Smart has no offers yet and Celtics are waiting to see if any better options might be available for less money.  Agent is probably feeling some heat from Smart to get this resolved. I'm sure he's the source of this.

Ainge specifically said after his "more than 12-14 million" comment that he would not be negotiating in the media.

It's not uncommon for RFA to sign their contracts after the moratorium period. There's nothing amiss about this.

I heard an announcer in the Summer League say today most of those "sources" rumors come  from agents. Sounds like his agent wants the Celtics to make a move. But the Celtics won't move until Smart gets an offer they can react to.

That was the first thing I thought about, that the agent is trying to drive his price up. I guess in the absence of an actual offer sheet from elsewhere, they will play the "he works his butt off for the team and is being treated bad" card.

I think the Celtics are doing the right thing in terms of waiting for an offer to match. That said, I do hope Marcus comes back as he impacts our team in so many different ways.

I want Smart and his atrocious 3-point shooting out of here if he keeps barking at the FO.
