Surprised this happened. Maybe David Aldridge wearing a purple/blazer/tie and gold shirt earlier tonite on NBA network was a tip-off. He's an LA guy, and doesn't hide his preferences.

4 years? James has a lot of confidence he can play that long. I doubt he can dominate for 40 minutes a game for much longer.

I understand Danny Ainge broke out a bottle of champagne when he heard the news. This makes the East a lot easier, though a healthy Leonard in Philly will put the Sixers in the thick of it. Ainge has the pieces to intercede, if he wants to. Doubt the Spurs will deal Leonard in the west. Don't think the Lakers have the cap space after signing Pope.

I think the Lakers will need a lot more than James to contend the Warriors and even the Rockets. And they'll now have to worry about chemistry--how the pieces fit around James. Everybody else around the King tends to become a pawn on a chessboard.

If Kawhi ended up in Philly and LeBron had to waste the season with that Laker roster... wow.

I rather Kawhi go to Philly than to the Lakers.  If Kawhi and LeBron coexist in LA, they'll be very tough to beat.

The Celtics can handle Kawhi and the 76ers on their end, while the Lakers continue to get dominated by the powerhouses in the West.

Lakers right now are a Top-4 team in the West (definitely playoff team).

They are NOT better than Houston or Golden State though as of now. If they add Kawhi and don't gut the team, then maybe they are better than Houston.

That's how I see it now
I don't think right now they are a top 4 team in the West. At least not assuredly so.  Any number of teams could be better and obviously GS and HOU are.

Current Projected 18-19 Lakers:

LeBron James
Lonzo Ball
Kyle Kuzma
Brandon Ingram
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
Josh Hart
JaVale McGee
Lance Stephenson
Ivica Zubac
Moe Wagner
Luol Deng

Yeah unless they successfully trade for Kawhi they are NOT beating Golden State or Houston.

Um, yeah, that locker room is going to be interesting throughout the season. Let’s count down the variables:

1) They're in LA
2) Several questionable characters/personalities in Lance, McGee, KCP, etc.
3) Lots of young guys with egos
4) The whole Ball family drama
5) Lebron’s own entitlement/micromanagement issues
6) A young head coach with questionable buy-in from someone like Lebron

What could possibly go wrong?!  ;D

All we need now is for Swaggy P to sign back with them...

the lakers sucked and had cap space. the celtics don't and don't.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Stephenson and McGee only signed 1 year deals

Seems 2 things;

1. Cousins is probably signaling he isn't going to LA (was maybe a lowball offer)

2. Lakers are pivoting to kawhi this year, klay next year priorities

I know, but I feel like free agency ain't the same without the Celtics signing any big fishes. We picked up Al Horford in 2016, then long-awaited for Gordon Hayward in 2017. Extra additions of Marcus Morris, Aron Baynes, Kyrie Irving, Shane Larkin...

It's all good. We're basically adding Hayward and Kyrie to a team that went to game 7 of the ECFs.

Our job this summer was to not screw up the great roster that we have.
