It was Michael Winger and Jerry West, Doc no longer has any GM responsibilities.

People can start new threads on those deals if they think they warrant larger discussion.

Lol Doc trades his son for Gortat, almost 2 years after he refused to trade him in a deal for Carmelo Anthony (who at the time was actually playing at an all-star level) which in turn led to resentment from some players and lost them Reddick and CP3 among others.

So now you wonder, what else does Jerry West have up his sleeve? DeAndre Jordan is likely gone now, but you think maybe if he can flip Jordan for good assets, he could trade some of them and others for Kawhi (make a better package than the Lakers)?

What an exceptionally strange deal for Washington.

Rivers is certainly not a replacement for Beal. Not in this lifetime. It will be interesting to see how Rivers meshes with Wall especially since Rivers has a reputation of not being very liked by his teammates.

Gives the Wizards depth at guard. I'm guessing they are trying to sign Howard.

I'm not sure what the Clippers get out of this deal, unless they felt like Jordan was declining his player option (which I find highly unlikely). Gortat is a basic backup. They already have Boban and Harrell.

No picks? No prospects? No financial gain?

I think the Clips are content just putting out a solid product. After years of bottom feeding they finally broke through with CP3 and Griffin, don't really think they want to give that up.

Gortat is a completely solid option at the 5. If they felt Boban was ready to take the reigns then they probably don't make this deal but it remains to be seen if he can handle a starter workload at his size. Gortat allows them to move on from DJ and let their guards duke it out for who gets the minutes without any more feelings of resentment that Austin was getting preferential treatment.

Solid move for both sides. Rivers could be a nice addition as the undisputed 3rd guard behind Wall and Beal. The ability to put out 48 minutes of quality point guard play is vital and something Wash hasn't had in a long time.

Wall has been open in expressing his disdain for Gortat - stressed that the team needs an athletic big. Local sportswriters have also covered Gortat’s dissatisfaction with his shrinking role and suggested the team thought, like Wall, that they want something more in tune with the modern NBA. Don’t know who they have in mind now, but they obviously need a big.

As for LAC, I think this deal makes this better and protects them from a Jordan departure.. They had a logjam in the backcourt with Williams, Beverley, Teodosic, and the recently drafted Robinson. They also have Bradley as a FA, who I would think could be in their plans if the price is right.

Gortat is a solid starter.  Austin Rivers is not.  He's a good offensive 3rd or 4th guard off bench depending on teams standing.  (Defense)
It's a no brainer for clippers.

Interesting move.  Gotta think neither team is done here.  For the Clippers, they got a decent enough starting center for an oft-injured guard who needed 13 shots to get 15 points a night.  And now there's talk of Deandre Jordan opting into his final year to facilitate a trade, possibly to Dallas.  So that's a pretty decent trade to get a replacement for Jordan.

For Washington, I'm not surprised by this.  Now it wouldn't surprise me if Wall or Beal, probably Beal, gets traded now too.  They had to change up the core of that team.  They've been together long enough now to see that they're just not gonna get over that hump, that hump being the East representative in the finals.  Because they surely weren't a championship team.

Living in DC, I see a fair amount of Gortat. He used to be a solid starter, but he’s well off his peak. Still rebounds and he’s tough, sets a very solid screen, but increasingly ground-bound and has bad hands.  Had a lot of trouble finishing last year; he shot only 65% at the rim, not much better than a guard. He’s a poor roll man and can’t shoot at all from the outside - took 90% plus of his shots from inside 16’. Among centers averaging 5 shots or more per game he’s 27th in eFG%. Also slow defending on the perimeter.
