An angry, embarrassed Sixers ownership group has been discussing the possibility of firing Colangelo, sources said. The Sixers are pushing for a resolution as soon as early this week.

The investigation has increasingly focused on Colangelo's wife as the author of a barrage of incendiary and revelatory tweets centered on Sixers players personal lives, injury health, proposed trades, former employees and rival league executives - as well as praise for Colangelo himself.

Colangelo's assertion that he was previously unaware of any tweets by his wife has been met with skepticism inside and outside of the 76ers. So far, ownership has been reluctant to separate Colangelo from any family member or close associate responsible for this embarrassing episode, league sources said.

The National Basketball Players Association hired the Paul/Weiss firm to deliver a special report on the business practices of former Executive Director Billy Hunter in 2013. It is believed that Paul/Weiss is using cyber intelligence consultants to assist them in the investigation, which sources say has included Colangelo surrendering his own phones and electronic devices for scrutiny.

Sounds like the players and/or their agents made it clear he had to go. The organization was trying to find a way out and unless Embiid/Simmons went to bat for him that wasn't going to happen.

His wife admitted to running the twitter accounts, and they couldn't prove Colangelo knew about them. But I'm skeptical he didn't know or that all of the tweets came from his wife.

Yeah, given that all the accounts went private after Colangelo was only informed of two of them, it seems highly unlikely that he didn’t know the accounts existed.  I’m willing to believe that he didn’t pay attention to everything the accounts were tweeting, but I’m sure he knew of them and approved of their general activity.

Law firm Philly hired says they connected the burner accounts to Bryan Colangelo’s wife, Barbara, and that in interviews she admitted to establishing and operating the accounts.

More than one person who spoke to PhillyVoice on the condition of anonymity suggested Jerry Colangelo tried to intervene on Bryan's behalf, threatening to interfere with club relationships around the league.
