shelburne: Allow me to capitalize the key wording in @wojespn latest update: “Pels want to be compensated - perhaps even overcompensated - TO EVEN CONSIDER- a deal with LA now.”

https://twitter.com/ramonashelburne/status/1092668890432323585
It was always NOLA's best strategy do go this rout.

Generally, they want bidders to keep raising the price.
Lakers know they have better chance to do the deal now, so NOLA waits for their best try.
They won't take it of course, as they know that offer (or better) will stand on the table in the summer.
Then they have this offer to raise Bostons and others offers.

Little bit more related news:
 @FletcherWDSU pelicans reporter:

FWIW, Dell Demps in weird spot.

Pelicans likely to “clean house” in April.
So Benson/Loomis only doing AD/Lakers deal if haul for NOLA is mind blowing. They want new GM set up for success.
LA doesn’t blow them away, they’ll be patient, new GM will “own the AD trade” this summer.

Here's an article by Woj written in December that describes exactly what's happening right now.

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/25587459/small-market-gms-upset-lebron-james-pitch-anthony-davis

"It's New Orleans' problem today, and a problem with a different player tomorrow for the rest of us," one Eastern Conference GM told ESPN. "It's open season on small markets and our players."

"If these are the rules, enforce them," one Western Conference GM told ESPN. "If you want to push Anthony Davis in L.A., if you allow LeBron to interfere with teams, then just do it. Change the rules, and say, 'It's the wild, wild west and anything goes.'

"Interference is as bad as tampering -- maybe worse in this case," one Eastern Conference GM told ESPN. "This becomes a campaign meant to destabilize another organization, install chaos and unrest that make it harder to keep an environment that the player would want to stay in. There's no use in complaining to the league about it. We all get that it's a players' league, but there are rules on the books that they need to follow, too."

I hope there are some repercussions for the Lakers, Rich Paul, and Lebron for what is going on right now, not that I expect it.  But that Eastern Conference GM is right.  This is installing chaos and destabilizing another organization.

That Eastern Conference GM might be Danny Ainge  8)

But that GM does have a point. If a player (not just LeBron James even though he is a big narcissistic jerk) can cause dysfunction to an organization through that practice it is pretty bad.

I think Demps in his attempt to spite Rich Paul and Magic will trade AD to the Cs for peenies... Aka not include Tatum but will settle for all of Boston's treasury of picks, Jaylen Brown and TimeLord and some more extra players to get the salaries to match... Lol

I hope so, but I think Tatum is a goner.  Even without the Lakers, some other team will step up with an enticing offer that the Celtics will need to beat.

Again.

Without a 100% committment from AD, there is NO WAY Danny trades Tatum. I doubt Tatum is part of the offer either way.

Also Smart is off the table in any deal as Kyroe loves playing beside him.

So NOP can pick anything they want after Kyrie/smart and tatum.

Brad should design offensive sets around Tatum next 2 games, let him go off for 40.

That’ll shut down Laker talks.

I would not give up Tatum because of AD not being a sure thing to resign here. I give them Brown and several others and all 4 first round picks.

There's a solid chance that the Celtics can acquire Davis without losing Tatum.  Boston will likely win out against the Lakers in any package that is close to equal value.  LA will need to unload EVERYTHING (Brooklyn style).  The goal for NOP is to take all of the Lakers assets, leaving them with nothing but AD and LeBron.  At that point the Lakers would need Durant to bail on the Warriors.

At the end of the day the Pelicans are never going to be a free agent destination and they will want to avoid setting a precedent where a single player (LeBron) can manipulate player movement throughout the entire NBA.  Tatum isn't going to sell tickets in NO and the team will still need to make a series of great moves to become relevant.  I could see them accepting an offer of Brown, RWIII, salary filler and all of our draft picks.  A 3rd team might need to get involved to help sweeten the package a bit.

It cracks me up that Lakers fans think Woj is Danny’s mouthpiece. It’s come up dozens of times on Lakersground.net

We've got people here insisting he's a mouthpiece for Klutch Sports, and I think most of his sources on this are from New Orleans, so maybe it's just a litmus test for biases.

Half their board seems to hate the proposed trade.

Now that's the kind of homerism we can relate to. Future MVP candidate Ingram AND future All-Star Kuzma AND best defensive PG in the league Ball for one guy???

Some interesting tidbits from Chris Mannix's latest article :

Quote
As the Pelicans field offers for Anthony Davis, Boston’s message to New Orleans has been direct: Wait. Wait, and we will come to you with an offer that will make it worth it. Wait, and you can raid our stash of draft picks. The Celtics have refused to directly dangle Jayson Tatum, two sources familiar with the situation told SI.com, but the Pelicans have been left with the impression that if Davis remains on the roster past Thursday, nothing is off the table.

Quote
Two days before the deadline and Boston will be on pins and needles until it passes. They know the Pelicans are enamored with Tatum, whose potential to develop into a franchise forward dwarfs that of any player the Lakers have to offer.

Kind of crazy how Danny has to navigate this, making New Orleans feel that Tatum could be on the table but not saying it directly, while also having to make sure he doesn't promise too low of a return at the risk that New Orleans could agree to the Lakers offer...

To add from the Mannix article. Seems like Kyrie might be least frustrated with Boston...

Irving created a stir in New York last week, when he appeared to backtrack on a preseason proclamation that he intended to re-sign with Boston this offseason. “Ask me July 1st,” Irving said, prompting speculation that Irving could now go elsewhere. But the Celtics remain quietly confident that they are on the same page with Irving, maintaining constant communication with the All-Star guard. “A partnership,” is how one source described the Celtics relationship with Irving, who has been frustrated—like many inside Boston’s locker room—by the uneven play this season but has been positive, publicly and privately, about the direction of the franchise.

The root of his frustration, a former teammate of Irving’s told SI.com, could have little to do with Boston at all. Irving hates the narrative that other players (Kevin Durant in New York; Davis in Boston) can influence his decision, the ex-teammate said. He gets frustrated when he feels people are trying to manipulate him. In his mind, it doesn’t matter if it’s Davis or James—he’s going to do whatever he wants to do, and to assume otherwise is disrespectful.

This isn't about the Lakers...it is about James. James wants to burn down the franchise and bring his guys in. Rich Paul does a huge disservice to his other clients because all his decisions are tied to how does it help James.

TBH, Paul should be begging the Pels to get AD to Boston. Much better situation. Stable for the next decade. Better coaching, better ownership, better GM, better support. Better surrounding cast and championship ready. Lakers are not winning crap anytime soon.

But this is about what helps LeTurd squeeze out a few more seasons before his old ass moves on.

I agree with you on this.  The problem is that Paul and LeBron are on the same page regarding player movement throughout the NBA.  I believe LeBron wants to have influence that extends beyond his playing career.  The current LA situation is just the first step in making this a reality.
