I think if we don't get AD and Kyrie walks, we become a treadmill team unless we nail the Memphis pick or get really lucky with another pick.  I see a core of Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart and Old Al as too swing/wing heavy and not good enough to contend for a title with how good the East has become, unless the Bucks, Raptors and Sixers all fall apart.

That said, if Danny and ownership have seen Kyrie from up close and want to move on, I can accept that.  But I don't agree with fans with little inside info who want Kyrie gone based on either one bad playoff series where the Bucks threw everything at him, or irrational grudges.
2023 Non-Active, Non-NBA 75 Historical Draft, SAB Bulls:

PG: Deron Williams 08 / John Wall 17
SG: David Thompson 78 (HOF) / Hersey Hawkins 91
SF: TMac 03 (HOF) / M.R. Richardson 81 / Tayshaun 07
PF: Larry Nance Sr 92 / Blake Griffin 14
C: Lanier 77 (HOF) / Brad Daugherty 91 / Camby 07

IF Kyrie stays you go all in for AD.

IF Kyrie leaves, then you do not mortgage the future for one year of AD. Stay young.

Maybe move some of the draft picks for a vet. If not, make the three picks and just build for the future.

You're only a treadmill team if you're locked into that group.

If the team isn't contending next year they'll be back into asset acquisition mode.

Danny Ainge isn't going to be content to stick with core group that is not good enough to contend.  But it may be necessary to focus on youth development over being competitive in the short term in order to line up a chance at the next big trade.

And Marcus all star defense and maybe a healthy Hayward..I was a big Kyrie fan and his regular season numbers and he did play much better defense. But no player has disrespected Celtic tradition and team first
.That is one constant since RED and Russell;-Isaiah felt it and Smart can feel it.

Kyrie is not coming back. He is no Lebron and he may be irreplaceable as a one off talent but is not indispensable.
Danny would have done everything to put Davis with a committed Kyrie

worth noting that Garnett was anti-Boston for a long time too.

I think if Kyrie agrees to resign and AD gives Ainge confidence he'll re-up in a year, you go for it and build around those 2. If Hayward could get back to his old form, we'd have the talent to play with anyone.

But if Kyrie walks and AD doesn't want to come here, I'm on board with Jeff Clark 100%. Let Al walk, and build around Tatum and Brown. If both turn into stars or turn into very attractive trade bait, it will give Ainge the ammo to make moves a year or two down the road. And keep in mind, if Hayward were to get back to 2017 form, he led Utah to 51 wins and the 2nd round of the playoffs with a lesser supporting cast than he could potentially have here. No, we won't be a contender in 2019-20, but we'd have a chance to see what we have in our young guys, and would at least have a more interesting likeable team than the mess we watched last year.

I honestly don't care anymore whether Kyrie stays or goes. I would like for him to re-sign if for no other reason than for us to retain control of him as an asset. But if he walks somewhere else then so be it. Don't want anyone here who doesn't want to be here. I've followed this team since 1985 and I've seen many players come and go. The team always endures. I'm not prepared to join the doom and gloom crowd - I think we'll be in a good position regardless of whether he stays, and AD comes on board, or leaves, and we build around our youth.

I've tuned out most of the noise coming from media pundits, talking heads, talk show hosts, agents and everyone else who has a stake in the drama. I'll wait to hear from the actual person himself once he makes a decision. Everything else is just pontificating, speculating or waffling from people who likely have no influence or no say in the decisions but have an interest in keeping the hype going.

I didn't immediately see this in the forums, so I'll just post it here:

https://www.celticsblog.com/2019/5/29/18644921/report-anthony-davis-still-wants-to-leave-pelicans

Also, within that article is another from The Bird Writes (Pelicans blog) where they think they are getting: Tatum Brown Smart 14th and 22nd this year and Memphis pick for AD - a player who is demanding a trade that has one year left on his contract. That about makes sense.

These trade ideas from these articles are just insane. If the Celtics gave up all that for 1 year of AD I’d be embarrassed to be a fan. I’d rather run it back if AD cost all that. Let the Lakers gut their roster for 1 player.

If we keep Smart, then I'm good with that deal.

I think that deal is dangerous. You are giving away a lot of leverage for keeping AD here, of course this is if Kyrie goes which is what I’m planning on.

Generational talent you are getting back. Tatum traded right now should be perfect- he seemed inconsistent/did not make a big leap all year long. Brown has flourished in his 3rd year so he's a big aspect to that trade. Smart- well he's got that defensive intensity but his offense is questionable at times (I'd ideally pull him out of that deal if I had to choose). And then ofc you include your assets like your three picks to sweeten the deal.

The way I see it, Tatum and Brown plus filler get traded for AD. Irving re-signs in Boston. Smart stays. Rozier goes.

So you have Irving, Smart , AD, Horford, Hayward, maybe Morris, Baynes....

If Hayward gets better, you have maybe a better team than this year. That's provided Stevens figures out how to coach them.

Smart has to go to make salary work. Brown, Tatum and Smart plus picks is an over pay and no one is bidding anything close to that. I think the Trade is Tatum, Smart, Yabu and 14th and Memphis pick. That's a potential star player with 1st team all defensive player and 2 good picks. I don't see anyone beating that.
